Hello to the group

I'm new to this list but not to 6 cly cars I have had a 65 mustang with a 200 for many years its now time to redo the motor and the wife would more zip in her car . So with the help of this list and other sources I will adding some hoursepower to an otherwise plain mustang . Sorry in advance for the stupid questions that I will be posting but I don't know that much about inline 6 s . I am amazed at the carbs that can used on these motors and I never knew that they make headers for these motors. Does the offenhauser 3x1 intake really work something about using a hole saw on my intake and what carbs do you use on that set up ?

Welcome to the fun and games. If you're used to multiple carbs, the Offenhauser style setup will be straightforward.

Otherwise, some people do find it challenges their notions of how much time/understanding is required to set up their motor.

Are you much of a DIY type? Ignition upgrades are one area that can be dealt with pretty cheaply.

Regards, Adam.

How much money do you have to spend for more power??

HP cost money, let your walet be your guide.

Advise with amount & we can guide you to the path for more power.

By the way welcome to the group. William

Howdy Redburd:

And welcome to The Forum. Before they have you heading to the bank for a loan, let me invite you to read, Read, READ on this forum. Just about anything you can think of that you might want to consider had been done by someone here somehow.

Next give a long and realistic thought about what kind of vehicle you want when you're finished (are we ever finished?) Will it be a Sunday cruiser, a daily driver, a race car, a garage queen, a retro, a resto or a resto-mod?

Think in terms of a well-balanced package that is, to some degree, safe, powerful, economical, reliable, unique, and satisfying.

Next, consider your budget. These cars are great jig saw projects. You can do a little now and more later, but a well thought out, comprehensive and realistic plan will make for a more satisfactory outcome, not to mention cheaper.

Now some questions- Are the brakes and suspension of need too? Interior? Body? Or are you just looking for ideas on a basic engine rebuild?

I think you'll find the participants on this forum to be helpful and friendly. The more specific and complete you can be the more helpful we can be. Things like- what trans? Where are you located? current condition of your Mustang?

Again, welcome. Enjoy the journey.

Iwill take the advise and look through this list and others I agree its already been or attempted . As far as my car this is a bone stock mustang that I would like add some zip to it but keep it streetable

Howdy Back:

Is it an auto or manual trans? What is the elevation where you live? Is this a California car originally? Does your state require an annual inspection?

Adios, David

this is an automatic car from the midwest and not subjected to any inspections .

I would stick with the 2bl upgrade if I were you. Much less difficult to install and maintain. I just put the 2bl carb, headers and the most important thing, a DUI distrubutor.

The car now runs like a 289 and is a lot of fun. The car really gets up and goes a lot quicker than with the orignal set up. Also, it is a lot of fun for guys at the local car shows to look at. People ask a lot of questions about the upgrades.
