hi guys, just after some advice,i got a 87 xf wagon with a reco 250 and a 4 speed,it's got a mild cam which i have no specs for as i didn't reco donk.it's got extractors and a hi flo cat.i'm running a stock 34 adm weber carb which has been kitted out.my problem is i can't stop it running on when i turn it off!i have done the timing again and again and it seems all good and the car starts first pop straightaway.i have checked the anti diesel solenoid on carb and this is functioning ok.could the egr valve make it run on?could it be my cam timing is out slightly?how do i check the cam timing without pulling my donk to bits?the carb is a full pollution model weber with the fuel return line and this seems to be working fine also but it seems like the fuel is staying in the carb after switch off!any ideas?someone will probably have encountered this problem before so any advice would be much appreciated.thanks

Did you just buy it or are you trying to sell this? Have seen something similar in the same location as you advertised.

Hey Wonk

I had the same prob with marvel jaw's 200 xf and it turned out to be the silly little solinoid on the side of the carb
We pulled it off and cut the pin down put it back on and Hey Presto

1.Check the Gregories book# 226 on page 75- 106. There is a whole section on the emission control bits. Check that some goon hasn't slipped in the wrong bits. 3.3 and 4.1's had different fittings, manual and autos had different fittings, and I wouldn't be supprised that one of the 10 set-ups they used isn't wrong somewhere.

2.And idle stop soleniod, check it again and again. It's the simple things that mess it up, even if it looks okay.

3.The head may have been milled down a lot, and it could be on 10.5:1 compression. They hardly ever stop easily with that much squeeze. The stock XF had an agressive advance at kerb idle. It may be just too much for the degree of squeeze.

4. Float level too high, or the abrasive crap in the unleaded gas. Things stick open, and keep pidling out petrol without the good old tetra ethyl lead additive they used to run.

well well it seems x taxi is the man, found the problem with run on it was my float level too high and some dick had put secondary emulsion tube in primary barrel so i fixed all that and it's all good.thanks again guys for your advice.another happy inliner!!!!
