HELP!!! What Size Are The Jets On Your 223 Offy 2x1?

I'm getting close to finishing the hot rod 223 in my '56 Effie, but I'm curious on jet sizing from those of you that've been down that road. I've got twin 1904's on an Offy 2-pot manifold, split headers and Barker Hi-Lift rockers. I'm also at sea level. Any suggestions/recommendations????

I'm interested in learing from the replies you get to this question, though I do wonder why not stay with the standard jetting on the 1904's.

I'm not an expert on carb jetting either, but I would guess that you might run too rich if you stick with the stock jetting on two carbs. You would basically double the amount of fuel being dumped into the intake. Seems to me that the advantage of dual carbs is to even out the fuel distribution over the four runners with one carb supplying fuel to two runners, instead of one carb supplying fuel to all four, the end runners getting the short end of the stick.

In theory, if you decrease the jet sizes, and even out the fuel distribution, you could use the same amount of fuel but get better performance using two carbs instead of one. I'm curious to learn from others on this also, as I want to run dual carbs, but don't want to go from 17 mpg to 10 mpg on a daily driver with today's gas prices.

This is just my hillbilly benchracing logic and am happy to be corrected by those that actually have experience on this.

The 1904's I purchased were a matched set from a mid-50's Gray Fireball Marine engine (sounds cool, huh?!). They came jetted w/ 52s, and since this setup came from Michigan (approx 600' above sea level), I guess I'll try this absent of recommendations to the contrary.

I'm finalizing the fuel line plumbing and with luck, will finally be able to light the wick on it sometime this week. Then again, I've thought that before. Regardless, I'll post the results asap...

Thx.

You’re right about it probably running too rich with all else being stock, but I thought this motor had been bored .060 over, was decked, some head work for better breathing, and some with headers… which would benefit from the extra fuel.

FWIW, I think Clifford Performance recommends between 390 and 500 cfm for their special intake with a 4V carb setup.

Did you “light the wickâ€￾ yet?

No, I haven't fired it yet... the final piece of fuel line plumbing is coming from Summit tomorrow (according to the tracking info). Hopefully this coming weekend.

Don't forget to hook up both carb vacuum lines! You won't have enough venturi vacuum from one.
