Getting Ready to Old School Hot Rod a 223

Thanks for the photos! I'm crazy about the late fiftys/early sixties wild kustom stuff. You can't go wrong pagan gold, scallops, pearls, telephones, tvs, or anything out of an early 60's t-bird interior. I like the white engine with the old offy parts and stacks. They almost look like the hood needs holes for them. Did anyone ever make aluminum side plates for these?
Keep us posted on the progress. Maybe i'll see it at one of the local shows (primer nats, paso)

Where does the time go???? I finally got the engine fired but, much to my chagrin, am working on basic tuning (timing, carbs and that dang'd valve lash). The carb linkage has given me fits in getting the adjustments right, but I'm now close to being done. The mechanical fuel pump wouldn't pump up & over the engine, so I had to get a small PSI Facet fuel pump to supplement it... still not sure I've solved my problem. The good news? When it's run, the headers and dual Smithy's sound AWESOME! If someone can instruct me on an easy way to get a sound clip, I'll post it once I get the final tuning sorted out.

Oh yeah, one last problem... the @$()@#! Holley 1904's are seeping around the float bowls (metal, not glass :x ). I picked up some cork gasket stock today to see if I can get more compressable material to increase the sealing (the rebuild kit paper gaskets just aren't thick or pliable enough). I've flattened the bowl & carb mounting tangs as much as I feel comfortable (too much more & I might crack them).

Anyway, good thing this isn't my current daily driver or I'd have been hoofin' it for a year now!!! I'd planned on moving to body & paint after the motor is done, but I think I'll drive it for a while (once the motor's done) and focus on getting the BB 460 going in my 63 Galaxie so it's drivable before taking the PU back off the road for body/paint.

More to follow as things progress...

If you can get them, glass bowls are the way to go. They don't warp or seep like the metal one's do. IIRC about 9 bucks each. Mine has had glass bowl about three years now and I have removed and reinstalled it 3 times while correcting a float problem. It seems to reseal fine as I see no leaks.

Forgot to mention, can't tell from your pics if you have the T5 in there. I used Mummerts adapter kit when I put the T5 in mine, and am very well satisfied with the setup.

Fred - Thanks for the tip on the glass bowls... anyone know where I can pick up 2 with the metal mounting rings?

As for the trans, I also have a T5 using a Mummert adaptor. After I got the clutch pressure plate chatter sorted out, it works great. Probably the biggest overall improvement to drivability!

I lucked out when I got my 1904 from a rebuilder in Phoenix, it had the glass bowl. seems like sometime back there was a discussion on where to get them. Maybe someone will member or maybe a search, I don't even recall if it was here. Might try Green sales or joblot, they both have hard to find stuff.
