Hope someone can help me with my small problem!!

I am finding it impossible to find replacement wheel cylinders for my 9inch. The bigger problem is that my mechanic threw out one of them removing the option of getting them reconditioned

The casting number on the wheel cylinder is 29608-C MADE IN USA.

They have a 1inch bore and a smaller than usual boss that bolts through the backing plate.

If anyone has any ideas, Please Help!!

George

Can you post a code off one of your backing plates? Sounds like the diff is an import.

If there's no markings like "BAI" also on the plates, then yep, an import for sure. The bolt holes for the backing plates were common to a lot of Ford brakes. As to the slave's locating boss, there's two types I've seen. One is an oblong with rounded ends; the other a circle. Sounds like you may have another again.

Have you tried something for an F-100 or Mustang? Both should be fairly available. I can't help on brake places in Melbourne, but maybe talk to Danny at Early Bird (I thinks that's its name) to see if he knows the drill.

Hi Adam,

I have tried everyone and almost everything.
This has a round locating boss, but it is smaller than usual. I have tried F100-150, XA GT, and eveything in between.

This is why I said HELP :!: :!:

Thanks for your feedback, but it looks like I need to buy new backing plates from and ausie 9inch.

Thanks again

George, unless you're running fined 2½" drums, just buy brakes off any Falcon (ought to fit; maybe check). Pre XC will have the smaller boss. These should cost next to nothing, but may need weld repairs where the shoe edges rub.

Do this and new cylinders are $30/pair, shoes ditto, drums $90 each. It's good and cheap.

Thanks Adam,

I need to find the complete drum assy of a large barring 9inch.
I paid a visit to the local pick a part and was unable to find anything that would suit.

I am almost tempted to by a 4pin LSD for the standard cortina diff as piss off the 9inch for good!

Thanks again,

George

They're out there. I paid $250 for my unused 4P/LSD centre. To install and setup is a bit of $$$. Can you not grind the backing plates or wheel cylinders at all? I am starting to think I have seen Girling cylinders (Land Rover?) with the smaller bosses you describe.

Can you email a good snap of the plate, with a measuring scale beside the hole? We can post it in the Drivetrain Supsension and Brakes section to try for responses. If the diff has not been shortened it would also be good to post the width flange to flange.

Adam.

Problem solved!!

Using a grinder, I made the standard GT cylinders fit.

The end result is not visually pleasant, but does the job.

Thanks for your help Adam.

Bye
