Help with Exhaust!

Hey all,

About to put new exhaust to replace what's on there now before it falls off. I'm thinkin about some headers from CI, probably non-coated stainless or coated MS. After that... The engine is all stock. Never gonna see a lot of upgrades, most it's gonna get is a progressive Weber and mild cam. So I'm considering running the headers into ONE 2" tailpipe to a Flowmaster or Magnaflow. I think that true dual exhaust would be overkill, and that the money I'd put into that would be better spend elsewhere. But... I'm not an exhaust wizard. Can anybody confirm or deny this, or give me some ideas as for tailpipe/muffler combos?

I should mention, another downside to true dual is that I just replaced all the brake line, and I was under the opinion that to do a true dual, I'd have to reroute the rear lines. Call me lazy, but I don't want to have to fool with that stuff again...

What do yall think? Thanks so much!!

Should not matter single or dual as far as brake lines were run in the same locations as org. Size wise if you have a 170/200 2 inch or 2 1/4 for near stock, on duals 2 inch should be ok too.

My bad yall. It's a 200 long six in a 65 coupe. W/ automatic tranny.

Ok. So if I do a Y-pipe into one tailpipe, a single 2 1/4 tailpipe would work?

Single pipe for your combination 2 1/4" would be fine. Bill

One thing you could do is a Y from the dual header into a single exhaust pipe; then going over the rear axle into a transverse muffler where the original 6 cyl muffler is located. There is a muffler for the later Camaro that is a single in with dual out, one pipe on each end of the muffler. You could then run dual pipes out the back.

This is what I'm planning to do to get dual exhaust out.

Just a thought.
