Help with my '68 Mustang

My grandpa machined the spacer for me, so I doubt you've seen it anywhere else, maybe something similar looking haha.

 Probably just some kind of early 80's sci-fi, high school, flash back on my part :rolflmao:

If anyone has a Autolite "Vaporizer" 1V Carb Adaptor or Dashpot Lever for an Autolite 1100

Sidebar: Just to clarify a couple things for you...the "Vaporizer 1100" is a Pony Carburetors (private company, not Ford) built carburetor. It is not the same as the standard Autolite 1100, and in fact is a completely new casting. The external linkages will likely work on a standard "Autolite 1100", but just want to clear up a common misunderstanding here on the forum that the "Vaporizer 1100" is just an Autolite 1100 that's been re-worked by Pony Carbs. Again they're not, the "Vaporizer" is an entirely new body casting with new internal passages, etc.

But back on subject....

Your Holley 1940 does not appear to be an "SCV" type carb, meaning it has no "SCV (spark control valve)" which is correct for 1968, because your distributor is not a "Load-O-Matic" type of distributor. It's not necessary to go into the 'SCV/Load-O' combination here, as it's covered in the tech section here and at classic inlines. The important thing is...you want to make sure the original 'Autolite 1100' you have (the one you are looking for a 'dash pot lever' for) is also NOT an 'SCV' type carb. It should not be an 'SCV' type Autolite 1100 if it's the original 1968 carb for your setup. But a picture may help clear it up...

Basically you'll want to make sure your original Autolite 1100 'does not' have one of these...

If it had one it would be located on the side of the Autolite 1100 like the one at the tail of this arrow...

Once you confirm your original 'Autolite 1100' is in fact not an SCV type, then you now have two carb options,
1) Your non-scv Holley 1940
2) Your non-scv Autolite 1100 (if you're able to find a dash pot lever for it)

Both will work with your 1968 distributor...the whole point of this is to suggest you stay away from using either an 'scv' type carb, or a 'load-o-matic' distributor with your setup, since they would be a mismatch for your '68 components. Either carb option you decide to go with, you may find it desirable to put back the original spacer. I've seen some for $20 or less on ebay. At some point the 1 barrel carbs convert from a ~1.5" opening throttle bore to a ~1.75", so it may also be helpful to confirm the throttle bore size on both your carbs (throttle bore size is the size of the hole on the bottom of your carb and should match the size of the hole on your intake log and/or spacer.)

If you swich to your original Autolite 1100 (and it is not an scv) you will still likely have to sort out the linkage issue you are confronting...I'd recommend reviewing the pics by all the posters in the thread I linked above as it should help show how your linkage should be correctly connected. Maybe invectivus will add a couple of his own that will further guide you in restoring the correct linkage setup...regardless of which 1 barrel carb you use, you likely need to figure out the linkage to get either working. Hope this is not TMI or adds confusion, but since '68 was the year the distributor advance system changed for all 200's, then I think it's important to know what parts to avoid as much as which correct parts to use.

Highly recommend purchasing a copy of the Ford Falcon SIX Cylinder PERFORMANCE HANDBOOK

One other thing about the Pony Carb Vaporizer is the cost, around $500.00

EDIT: At the risk of side tracking Chad's thread...I wonder if that's a typo on their 'current' home page...$575

...still currently "not available at this time"....it is definitely a 'long-term' commitment, at least for me.

Again, don't want to divert Chad's thread (just an interesting bit of news), really just clarifying for Chad that he's not looking for "Vaporizer" parts, he wants standard "Autolite 1100" parts...there's already some ongoing threads about the other

IMO, I'd stick with one of the two carbs you have until you get her running and start to formulate bigger goals/plans from there

The carb adaptor made for the vaporizer will fit my autolite 1100 as well, I am not using any parts off of a vaporizer or buying one.

More research for you & "to get up to speed" is the classic inline site. Lotta good info even 4 us "non-beginners". Good deff of load a matic distributer (& dizzy/carb interface), SCV, etc. Just head over and browse the site 4 more understanding/ability to continue w/ur project even tho THAT system ended in '68 (glad my 170 IS a '68 - w/o it).

Slo & easy duz it, 1 thing @ a time when working with "a system' like an automotive engineering.
U Go Boy!

 Could he possibly First disconnect the belts and try to turn the crank with a ratchet then move onto the priming the oil system by disconnecting the spark plugs and cranking it over for short bursts? It does circulate the oil, but I don't know to what degree. I should probably just get an oil primer for my drill sometime.
