I went out to wash my car this morning and it wouldnt start. I put in the key, the lights came on, turned the key it didn't crank and then all of the lights went off, and wont come back on unless you leave for a couple of minutes, and come back.

sounds like dead battery. you oughta check voltage... should be around 12V.

Maybe the radio was turned on overnight?

there are severeal reasons for a battery to quit... maybe its just finished and needs replacement. or maybe a faulty alternator drew all the amperage. same goes for faulty voltage regulator.

if you manage to get your car running (try jump starting) check voltage past the regulator, should be between 13 and 15 volts, definitely more than 12 volts.

Dead battery. Maybe a bad generator/alternator not charging your bad, or not so bad battery? Perhaps some bad ground wire or something else draining your battery. Many possibilities. It takes more battery power to turn the motor over than to turn the lights on. Start with a jump & if that works, get your battery charged fully & take the car to a shop or parts store where they can test the charging system to see where the problem is. If you still have a generator, as I do, make sure & buy a replacement with a lifetime warranty. I have gone through 2 or 3 in the last 8 years & have not had to pay for anything except the 1st one.
Good luck

Check your battery connections first. Make sure they are making contact with the battery. Clean the terminals and connections.

If it still doesn't want to crank after you charge it and if you have very low lights...Probably a dead cell in the battery.
