HEY! How about a Pony 1100 Group Buy???

Typically a group buy is initiated by a vendor who has previously arranged a pricing schedule with the supplier.

I give up. Everyone has plenty of advice around here, and very few are putting their money where their mouths are.

FWIW: I've done group buys using this method before. It can and does work.

Moderators, you may lock this thread... :bang:

My point is that it is going to be difficult (and the lack of groundswell in this thread confirms this) to get a group buy going when you do not know:

1.) If there is a vendor that will support it

2.) If the supplier will support it

3.) Providing #1 and #2, what the discount and logistics will entail.

If you instead were able to say, for example, "Pony is offering 15% off if we can get 10 or more people together." You will have much more success.

It is hard to put your money where your mouth is, so to speak, when you don't know exactly how much money you are being asked to put up.

And I'm not putting my money anywhere because I have no use for a 1bbl carb, FWIW.

Why lock the thread ? don't give up so easy
read and learn, you just might get what you are looking for...

Well, I'm still interested in being a Guinea...I would think that's our in...
I don't think it hurts to talk turkey either. I get a rough count of 5-8 depending upon whether or not jahearne sells his '66 :D ...halfway there

page62 I hope you're still interested in pursuing this

First, let me say I understand why there is a lot of skeptism, and that I'm just as curious as the rest of you.

For the past few months, I've been trying to find someone who has dyno'd a stock setup verses the progressive Weber. But it seems nobody has done any dyno test, as I've never gotten a response to my inquiries. I also was hoping to see dyno results from a 2V mod on a log head. While I've seen a couple dyno results, none were done with just the carb.

Hence, doing a dyno on the new Vaporizer really isn't going to help much, as we have nothing to compare it to. At least none of the other carb upgrades. We can see how it does verse a stock carb, which is OK, but I'd like to see how it stacks up to the 2Vs, via an adaptor and/or direct mount???? Which setup is the best bang for the buck? Which results in better mileage?

As for a group purchase, I'm all for it. I'd be happy to talk with the owner of Pony Carbs and see what can do. I'll give him a call in the morning and will post his response tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I can get a discount on a group purchase, I just don't know how much. We'll see.......

OK, I talked to Pony Carbs.

First, he doesn't think it would be realistic to do a tri-power set up as the cost of purchasing three carbs would be prohibitive for the gains in power. However, he did say he'd like to see how triple 1Vs would do on a custom manifold, mounted to the aluminum head (verse the 4V)?

So far, they have dyno'd a dozen different cars in their shop. All are netting 10-15 percent gain in power, as the new carb is showing results in the 87-90 RWHP range. They have been getting some feedback from their customers, but nothing yet on mileage. However it would be safe to assume one would see a 10-15% gain in the mileage as well, depending on driving habits.

While we are not going to do a group purchase, Classic Inlines is going to offer a $40 discount for the next two weeks, until the 7th of August. That way, even if only three or four guys do it, they still get the discount. However, the carbs won't ship until the first week of Sept, which is when the next batch is due in.

Wow, this topic took a fast death. $40 huh?
I picked up my rebuilt C4 last night and will install it two weeks from now while the wife and kids are out of state. Once I wrap that up I'll look more into this. Thank you Mike for the discount. Thanks page62 for the idea.

I'm new to this post, Ford Six, but have been on Ranchero US for a year or so. I have a 64 Ranchero I got before Christmas 2006 for $1,000. It has a 200 six and auto, C4, been changed from orig. 170 and 3 speed. Anyway, been going through it to see what can be done. Runs ok, and the compression checks out good enough (130's) to "hang a few things" on it; the 3 main recommends, elec. ignition, header, and carb. Saw ad in Legendary Ford a few months ago, on Pony Carbs 1100, was curious. So this it what happened: (an edited copy of a post off Ranchero US, by me, I'm BlueOvals there):

"Well, I sprung for it!! I happened to be at my favorite Mustang shop today (a week or so ago), to get some parts for my 70 Stang, and I casually asked: "have you heard about the Pony Carbs vaporizor 1100"? And the kid behind the counter says: "Yeah, we've sold 3 of them, and have one left". Guess they had ordered a few to try on their customers. I pounced on it, since I get a 10% discount at the shop, cuz of belonging to a local Stang club. Did not have to pay shipping, but did pay tax, so a wash. Best part is not worrying about the "gorillas" at UPS drop-kicking it around, like happened to the last carb I had shipped with them, was all smashed when I got it; and a $900 dash restoration, for my 67 Cyclone, a year ago, that almost was destroyed, by what looked like a fork lift tine driven through the box and out the other side!!! I now hate UPS!!!

So the Vaporizor carb's all mine now, and will have it put on in few weeks (got to finish some work on the Stang first), and report. I guess I should be "scientific" and measure mileage, dyno it, etc. before, with the old air leaking 1100, but I'm too impatient for that (that could change now tih my delay)!! After this goes on I'm looking at a header and electronic ignition, that's pretty much it, for the what turns out to be a 200 engine after all. Vin says it's a 170, a "U", but the 200 was added later, apparently!! Has the 5 freeze plugs on passenger side of engine, to confirm." So will report perfomance here (and here!!)."

Have not even take mpg as the truck does not run much, yet, but will, and will report none the less, for grins if nothing else. Consider me the guinea pig:lol:

Welcome, where in nor-cal?

Hi, I'm about fifty miles from Tahoe, off hwy 50, a forested village called Pollock Pines!! Lots of nice lonely little roads to run my cars on, and get stranded, out of cell phone range

Great to hear you bought one. Sounds like you could be the person to do an objective commentary on its function (and thus economy).

Regards, Adam.

I love it up there ;) Good friend of mine lives in Auburn.

welcome rws. I hope you stick around through your build. This place is full of great people and great knowledge.
To be fair on your report, you really need before and after results. Get it running, drive through a few tanks, then do the swap. Otherwise your report will tell us nothing.

Not altogether true.

If the post-swap figures are exceptionally good, and remain consistent over two or three months (measured every tank), then it's a win. The biggest impact on mileage calcs I know of, is unreliable odometers! :x

I see what you're saying addo, but mpg is being reported anywhere from roughly 14 to 30. With that, what would be defined as "exceptionally good"?
And as for hp/tq, it's all seat of the pants reports.

I'm not interested in dyno figures, but if someone can dependably get 27+ MPG at commuter speeds and mixed driving that's noteworthy. It'll depend somewhat on the trans, but Rickwrench gets about 29 with the T-5, IIRC.

I'll definitely try to at least do the mpg before and after comparison, in honor of "science". My 8th graded teacher would approve :D

This is what I'm hoping for. If someone can get 27 on a fairly stock motor (not RickWrench's), I will buy a Pony Carb as fast as I can.

Remember I consistently get about 20mpg with a high being 24mpg. Keep in mind, I have never driven the car straight for a full tank. I have a feeling like most cars, the milage would increase considerably. Seems most cars, new or old get 5-10mpg more with a long haul like that.
