Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me diagnose a problem....

When I'm in low 1st I sometimes get a high pitched squeak (sounds like a tire rubbing up against something under speed). It doesn't happen when I turn, so I've ruled out power steerling or wheels chafing the wheel well. Recenlty one of my belts broke and I replaced it. During the time that I drove the car when I didn't know it was broken (whoops!) and for a brief time after I fixed the belt, the screeching did not return. Before the fix, the screething would somethimes even occur up to high first and low 2nd gear. This problem is annoying and embaressing (its almost as loud as my engine!) and I just cant seem to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Jon

Yea I was thinking that it could either be a belt slipping or a bearing going out in the water pump. Guess i'll put more torque on the belt and see what kind of effect that has on the problem. Thanks guys, and if theres anything else that mightb e causing it, please tell me!

put less torgue on the water pump belt

bearings go because the belt is too tight....I beleive

hmm, less on the water pump belt? I used the alternater to tighten the belt, but it may be slipping back, because it's still squealing. Wow, this sucks, but i'll keep messin with it. Thanks,
Jon
