Ok, i have a few questions with a carburetor im rebuilding. Its a Holley 1940.
First, there seems to be quite a bit of oxidation inside the carburetor since i disassembled and cleaned it. Anyone know what i can do to get rid of this?
Second, i need to find a new power valve jet, anyone know where i might be able to. And what size is the main jet in this thing so that i can see about getting a larger jet???

Thanks,
Jonathan

Howdy Jonathan:

The Holley #1940 is a replacement carb for the Autolite 1100 & 1101, which were last made in 1969. It was never used by FoMoCo on anything. It was designed to fit many applications and came in several venturi and jet sizes. The only way to know for sure what jet size is in yours is to disassemble and inspect.

The #1940 is not an easy carb to work on and has little to recommend it. They typically got worse mileage than the carb they replaced.

Most one barrel rebuild kits have a new PV included.

The "oxidation" may be calcification. Try soaking in vinegar, before or after the carb cleaner soak. If it is calcification, you might try a can of fuel system cleaner through the system to elininate water- the most likely source of the calcification.
