Guys....

I came across an early 80s mustang with this carb. I can pick it up for next to nothing along with the air cleaner assembly

I'd rebuild the carb of course before I put in on my bronco

What are your thoughts about this model carb??

I'm pretty sure thats what i currently have. Nothing special and i couldn't find a rebuild kit any where for it. I bought an autolite 1101 off ebay for 30 with S&H and a rebuild for 15. An autolite or carter might be a better option.

Picked it up today and carried it to Napa....rebuild kit is available from them next day.

I'd love to find a carb that will work

Howdy:

The Holley #1946 is a fairly complex carb. It first appeared OEM on 1980 200s and was used until the end of 200 production in 1984. It became more and more encumbered with EPA type gadgetry to try to meet the ever increasing emmission standards of that era. Consequently, it had sealed adjustments and somewhat limited tuneability. In stock form it was fairly serviceable and reliable. It has a ported vacuum source for the DuraSpark II ignition system of the day and made for a fairly lean, clean burning, economical system.

I have not enjoyed working with this carb as much as the Autolite 1100 and 1101, and Carter YFs, or RBSs. These carbs are much easier to work on and to rebuild. Others on this forum seem to like the #1946s and have done well with them.

Let us know your experiences.

Adios, David
