Homemade monte carlo bar

I am making my own monte carlo bar and looking at clearance issues.
Is there a reason that it can't go behind the shock towers?
My first thoughts would be that it might not be as strong as it in front of the towers. I see why most people go with a curved bar for the clearance but give up some of the stiffness. I have a decent place to put it in front of the towers, but it might cause some issues when I want to switch to the 2bbl carb.

The idea is to stiffen the front end forward of the shock towers. You already have "Gussets" stiffening that part of the "Box" from the shock towers to the firewall. The best way is to run another set of "Gussets" forward of the shock towers to finish the box. Check out and compair that idea to the Total Control braces. You can see that forward set of gussets in their design.

Take a look at the frame there below the radiator. There are a set of gussets at the frame as well.

Have fun, Ric.

Thanks
I kinda figured that it needs to be on the front side but wanted to check. I just tacked in the bar a bit ago and going to pull it out to finish up later. I think where I put it I shouldn't have clearance issues unless I get a larger air cleaner, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

Yes it is bolted on the 2 bolts normally used by other monte carlo bars. I wanted it to be removable incase I have to switch out motors.

I'm betting that you'd be better off with a bigger air cleaner, I haven't seen one that small that didn't choke the engine (but I ain't seen everything, either...)

Actually there seems like no difference on or off with that air cleaner. I plan to figure something out when I go to a 2bbl. If I get a wild hair I might get a bigger one and make it fit.
