Hello. I have come across a 200" for my Comet. It has good but glazed bores and I plan on re-ringing it with moly rings. What kind of hone would be best for this? The flex hones come in 120 and 180 grit and the three legs from 120 to 320 grit. Any advice?

8) i would use the three leg hone with the 320 grit stones. when you are done, clean the cylinder walls untill you can run a white rag soaked with atf over the walls and get NO debris on the rag. then use moly rings. you only want to break up the glaze, so keep the run time with the hone to a bare minimum.

I would suggest that you always use a paper towel, instead of a rag when working inside of an engine. If there are minute particles left behind, they will break down and won't alter bearing clearances as a cloth will. Just a suggestion!

Thanks for the replies and advice! I talked to a fellow (Nascar engine builder) earlier this week who suggested scuffing the bores with scotchbrite. He said if the cross hatch pattern is still there then remove the glaze and carbon with scotchbrite. He said that is what they did with race engines. Thanks again.

8) you are right, i should have specified lint free cloth.

Viva brand paper towels and Scott Shop Towels would be my 2 choices for lint free, and most groceries have Viva.
