I have a set of Hooker Super Comp' headers and found that the flanges have the round tube welds extend 1/32 or so making the sealing surface to the head actually round.
HAs anyone using Hookers seen this and have a recommend for gaskets or grinding the flanges flat?. I have a FSPP header gasket but it won't work the way they are. I also thought of making up flat copper gasket.
I got them on e-bay so I don't have any Hooker info with them.

Thanks, Powerband 8)

Powerband, contact holley & request a set of header gaskets for the 6601 header.
Send it to:

Thanks,

For god sakes do not grind the header flange weld rings around the 4 outer pipes at the flange. use their gaskets & you will have no problems.
Glad to be of help. When i get up in my garage attic this weekend i will get you the header gasket part # if necessary. William

Whew that was quick!. Thanks for the info, nothing like the forums for knowledgable answers - if you ask the right questions!

Powerband, the hooker header 6601 gaskets part #10827HKR. They are available from holley or you might check with summit, or even a local parts house. Possible fel-pro has a steel reinforced gasket also. Let us know where you were able to get one if other than holley. William

Header flange rings are common on Hooker headers, and Clifford's too. Supposed to help with sealing at the head, but I have never found it to help all that much. I double gasket the dang things to get them to seal. :?

Phil, if the head exhaust mounting surface is true-remember this can be milled flat just like the head gasket surface, then with a header flange that is not warped, you should only need 1 gasket. The key to keep from blowing header gaskets is to keep tightening the header bolts. After installation even before you fire up the engine for the first time, tighten the header bolts again. After you have run the engine for the first time after installation tighten them again. Do this procedure daily for the first week of operation. Then check tightness every month. Using this procedure for many years over 50 sets of headers i have never blown a gasket, providing all the surfaces are true. The torque once procedure will lead to a blown header gasket. I'm not trying to discredit your susgestion of 2 gaskets, but that is a bandaid for warped surfaces either header flanges or head surface. If you have to use 2 gaskets do what you have to. Do it right the first time. Header gaskets are a big pain,, use the ones with steel reinforcement as part of their construction. They will last. William
