how about this turbo?

I posted on here a while back about putting a Carbed Buick 3.8 Turbo on my '67 Falcon 200. after a long time of looking and searching for the missing parts, I'v given up on it, would cost more in the long run to use the free turbo even if I found the parts than get a new 1 so I got searching Ebay and found these 2 turbo's, they both appear to be the same but from 2 diffrent company's. the 1 company says that they are only good for an engine up to 2.5L, the 200 is 3.3L so I figure it should be almost perfect for street driving. and the internal wastegate just makes it simplar for me.

the first 1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RB20...8QQihZ014QQcategoryZ33742QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and the second http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-T4-TU ... dZViewItem
oh, I know about boost refrencing and the carb mods but what do I do for an oil return line? thanks. Haven't forgot about the site, just got sidetracked with my other car.

I would be cuatios of china ebay turbos...

I would look for a used REAL garrett in that price range would would bank on having it rebuilt (won't know until you run it) that first cheaper turbo doesn't list any specs for it (although for $240 might be worth the outlet and dual port wastegate actuator)

VERY cautious. I would trust the secong one a little more but just barely.

I was talking with Kevin at Majestic Turbo (here in Waco) and he keeps seeing these cheap imported turbos coming into him to be rebuilt. When they go bad, they go with a vengeance, and it costs more to rebuild them than to get a new imported one, that'll last for another 60-90 days.

Usually he'll tell folks they can step up to a quality unit for twice what they paid for the first one (you get what you pay for!!) and then they'll be happy for more than 90 days!!

STAY with a good company here in the USA that will be there for you and treat you right. eBay only allows 90 days for feedback, and that seems to be about right when those turbos expire.

I have heard of the housings on those chinese turbos cracking and some ppl having problems with them. yet there is a kid at my school who a turbo setup off ebay for christmas and his was fine the last I heard b4 summer started, I dont know him, he drives a civic. lol good luck

the second 1 has a listed 90 day warranty. I'll check for real garrets. I have a real garret T04 super 60 from the 3.8 maby I'll make the carb plenum and get the actuator and a external wastegate with the 5 bolt adaptor.

It's NOT a Garrett. Th word "Garrett" merely appears in the search header, not in the item description. That means "if you're searching for a Garrett turbo, you might want to look at this Chinese POS instead."

You're not going to touch a real Garrett for that kind of money.

that's what I was thinking. just wanted to verify that. I see garret rebuilds on Ebay for like OEM volvo's and such for around $350, and they have the internal wastegate. that's really what I'm looking for because of the simplicity.

but for $280 it could be worth the v band outlet and the actuator (replacement actuators are about $80 new) when I had my T3 rebuilt and turned into a hybrid back in 2000 it cost me $380....kinda hard to think a NEW turbo would be less than that.

You don't want that, because then you often CAN'T rotate the housing to fit your application!

also, look at the prices.......if it looks too good to be true it usually is

Ok, than I'll get a 5 bolt internal to external wastegate adaptor for my current 3.8 turbo, some 3" exhaust pipe and some fairly heavy gauge steel with a 4 bolt squarebore 4bbl spacer to make a carb plenum, and I'll run draw through. I was thinking about doing this today. now going back to the original plan running draw through, could I put a couple bends in the pipe that goes to the intake manifold from the turbo outlet? the outlet normally just bolts to the intake on the stock 3.8 carb'd engine, I think there would be hood clearence issues otherwise.

Theres a blokeon Fordmods.com (fritzz) that has a super t70 ebay turbo on his falcon 6. Spools up around 3-3.5k rpm. Has been using it for around 15000km now without trouble.
But I've also heard the horror stories...

Half the problem is that the turbos are so cheap that every Tom dick and Harry is buying these turbos and fitting them to there cars without actually knowing what they're doing. A bloke in my town had a turbo fitted by a garage to his... Proton..? Dodgy garage mounted turbo to STD exh man. via an adapter plate. Turbo was mounted next to sump! Bloke got an EPA notice the next day. Garage refused to accept any responsibility. Bloke didnt get his $2500 back... Turbo shat itself a couple of days later...

would you like to sell them?

none.

with a turbo and FULL exhaust you won't need a muffler on a street car. by full exhaust I mean to the BUMPER not turndowns under the seats
