If you're thaat nervous about it, pull the pan.
Another possible alternative is to route the return to the timing chain cover, if the geometry of your setup allows you to do so. Easily pullled, modified and re-mounted. The trick is to keep the oil line out of the way of the various belts and sheaves on the front of the engine

I drilled mine with a big Unibit with the shop vac blowin' and then welded the fitting on. Never pulled the pan. I used a heater hose fitting from the parts store.
 
I'm thinking I'm going to freshen the engine up a little, and figure whail I'm at it, I should install 8.5:1 pistions and get a late 200 head for the larger chambers, and run more boost with a controller. and put a little more cam in it, what specs should I be looking for? I'v heard that stock 250 cams are good for this?

Whatever is stock is fine
engine makes 9.2:1 stock figuring in the .025 compressed shim gasket. with the standard, new style gasket, it would give 8.8:1, would that be good for the turbo spooled to the 14 PSI? running at least 93 octane of course. I got the price for a remanufactured stock '76 200 head from rock auto and it is $300 not figuring in core refund, if this is an assembled head I'd be stupid not to get it, getting my head rebuilt would easily cost that much. does a '76 head have the larger chambers?

Compression is fine with 93 octane and good to about 8 psi. You can always add alcohol injection to start spraying at 5 psi later if you like.

Get the lastest year head you can, i think EOxx (1980 casting) and later are the best with the largest log size, largest valves and big chambers. Should be really easy to find one.

The EGR block off plate is super EASY to make. I just cut the flange off my EGR valve and flipped it 180* = instant block off plate!

You can see it on the side of the log under the carb....

they do sell the '80 head, I looked it up for 1980 Mustang. $293 W/O core, I wouldn't send back a core, I want to keep my head so if I need to go back to stock, I'll only need a new oil pan w/o oil drain.
