ive been working on a 66 200 and i was curious about how fast i can get this thing. So what is the Fastest you guys have heard of?

Mine hit 120 on the Dyno at 5200 RPM's and was still climbing...The operator that was doing the test chickened out!!!!

My bone stock 200 with 3.20 rear gears and a C3 transmission struggled to 90MPH, by then it was screaming its guts out. The front of my car used to vibrate pretty good, thats when I knew I had to slow down. Ahh, good times...before I took apart to restore, now it just sits in the garage on stands; it hasn't seen the sun in so long it's depressing
I could seriously cry... :x

I have seen 95 on my speedo, but I'm reading about 5 or 6% high (185/70-14 tires). :D I usually cruise at an indicated 75-80 (again, minus 5-6%).
Helps to keep me from getting too many tickets. Besides, I drive on long trips and don't need to blow it up 2,000 miles from home.

96....and thats all the faster she'd go... :( it was running at about 4200 rpms, I dunno if the tires made a difference but they were 195/60/14s if I remember correctly, pretty low profile for my taste but I bought a new set of taller ones...

but that's not factoring in wind resistance, is it?

*ahem*
i know a certain person, who had a certain Florida Highway Patrolman clock him doing 95

Between 95 and 100 mph on my car too. And that took a heck of a long road to get up to that speed. Seemed like with about 5 miles of straight road if might have eventually gotten to 100.

I've gone 100 and might've been able to go a little more but I chickened out because the front end and my dash was vibrating so much. Then there were the cheap tires that I didn't trust. My exit was coming up also and it seemed like it took forever for my car to safely slow down.

I'll join in on the Speeders Anonymous post. I've gotten up to 90-95. I've got the pokey little 13" original wheels, a c4 and a 3.50 rear. The motor was screaming and the body a floating.

I think the only difference in mine from most of the posts is that I'm running 2.83 gears. When I'm at 2950 RPM's I'm doing 70 and about 3400 80.....My take off seems a little slow but it makes up in the top end...

wow, I'm surprised. My 250 hits 100 fairly quick. 3 speed C4 kinda restricts us unless you have an AOD tranny which I do, and intend to install it soon with a fresh built 250, then I'm for sure I'll see 120+. My Maverick right now with 109K original miles with an original 250/C4, 205 70 15" tires still pulls a 16.9 second best quarter mile at 78 MPH. Pretty good I think.

These engines i'm sure once built right will hit 14 second QT's easy. Seems like mine does better once I'm past 60 mph so highway driving is pretty good. If we all had the means to put a T-5 5 speed, it can only get faster. Slush box hurts our top speeds.

Had mine on the freeway the other day-I've got the 2.80 diff in right now and it pulls like a freight train after 60 mph. The only problem is that it has the aerodynamics similar to those of a loaf of wonder bread and it gets real light in the front after 90 or so. I have seen the magic 100 passed on the right stretch.

hmmm...yeah i've had my Comet to 90 or so...was scared to push anymore, and wasn't sure it would go any faster :)

I was up in the 90 range on my old 170. the 200 seems a little softer up top but it is also missing compression since I put the motor together for boost. I think about 10psi will get me past the 100mph with ease. I second that on the loaf of bread theory. I know if I slow from 70 to 60 the wind noise seems like it disappears.

I can't wait until I finish my sr design and we get the GT wheels on my car and some nice tight rack and pinion front end.

110 here, cant remember if it was before or after the T5, but it was DEFINITELY with the 500cfm, headers, MSD etc. I was behind an infinity on a LONG straight and I figured I would see if I could keep with him. We both chickened out from there and I was too busy watchin him than the tach. My mechanic and I joke around about breakin speed records with the World Class T5 and 2.8 rears, lol

Hypothetically speaking,

I have a "friend" named "Bob" with a mustang very similar to mine. When Bob's mustang was stock, max speed was about 85MPH doing down hill with the wind at my back with the 2.77 3 speed.

Now, with a Comp Cam 260, Aussie head, Holley 4V carb, T-5, Bob has taken his car to 115MPH before chickening out since he only has 14" tires and they are rated at 120MPH.

120MPH in a 65 Mustang is a lot scarier then 120MPH in a 99 mustang or 98 Volvo.
