How's Your New Head, Mr. Cini?

One thing I heard of using that's cheaper than aluma seal and in my opinon works better is black pepper. Yes I mean the stuff you season your food with.

My grandfather told me about it and I really had no other choice as I had to get to work the next day. The first few days when the motor would warm up you could smell pepper very distinctly but after that it was fine.

As for the aluma seal? The morning I was supposed to leave for the Fairlane Club Nationals in Cincy Ohio, I put aluma seal in the radiator. 15 minutes after starting the car, the radiator burst.

if you have an old radiator, plugging leaks might also plug corroded/dirty passages. But that stuff is meant for pin-holes. If your passages have corroded down to the size of pin-holes then you got bigger problems.

IT LIVES! got 'er started up yesterday during lunch, let the car run for almost 20 minutes to get the oil circulating. damn it's loud without an exhaust! today i took it for a spin around the neighborhood. i seems a bit sluggish out of the gate, but seems to pull decently when it gets going. i will take the car to the muffler shop thursday. i don't really want to take it out too much till then. it's so damn loud, it kind of scares me a bit! once i get an exhaust on, i'm sure it will need a bit more tuning. i don't expect it to be perfect right out of the gate. i have higher compression, bigger valves, OZ head, 350 cfm 2 barrel holley, 6 into 1 header, new timing gear, i'm sure it will take a bit of tuning.

good night.

Yeah, mine ran quite sluggish on open headers. It's probably jetted too lean for that. Put some big jets in and watch the flames fly! (Of course, you'd have to by lying on your back under the car at speed to see that...)

While you are in the muffler shop, have an oxygen sensor bung installed. That way you can put a wideband sensor in as it is the best way to get your carb jetted correctly.

got the exhaust done yesterday. 2.5 pipe with a dynomax super turbo muffler. well, i did a good hour of city street driving yesterday. it feels good, but it's taking a bit to get used to. it feels totally different. the acceleration is good, and the holley 350cfm carb is pretty smooth and responsive with very little tweaking (i bought it used off of michael raley, so it was already jetted for a 200ci with OZ head). i will have to do more driving and take it out on the freeway but it's got some good torque and the 264/274-110 cam has a nice lope. my friend richard said, "it doesn't sound like grandma's cam shaft, that's for sure!" the car sounds pretty tough with the turbo muffler and lopey cam. the exhaust note is nice, boy am i glad i didn't get a flowmaster, the dynomax is more than loud enough for me. i can't imaging it being any louder.

i'll keep you guys posted.

Hows the Vacuum. I have about the same set up, but my vacuum goes form 14 to about 5 when I put it in gear, can't hardly stay ideal, acts like its going to cut off. I have a DUI, what are your vacuum readings?

well, i don't know for sure. but it definately not as good as it was with the original cam. i have a power brake setup and the pedal feels much harder and not too responsive. that is one of the things i need to sort out. how do i tell how much vacuum i'm making? my idle is decent, but it will require a bit more tweaking. when i have to sit at a light for a bit i drop it into neutral, it idles better.

Just use a vacuum gauge on it... if it is running out of vacuum for the booster when stopping, you can always add a vaccuum canister onto it.

BTW..another thing that can help some is a dual-diaphram booster..but the vac canister is a ton easier of course!
