ignition problem

hey guys,
its been a long time, sence ive been on but i got some Q's.
So changed out my distribitor cause the bearings and what not went out in my other one and i put my new one in with pertonix and all i go to start and all it does and make a poof noise from the aircleaner and when i rotate my dist to set or find timing my pertonix unit makes a little bit of an arc noise from the coil. so i need some help i bet its in the timing but i cant find my TDC mark on the harmonic damper. can you guys please help me

i'd be suprised if the mark is gone.they are just two "nicks" on the pulley. if it is, i'd pull the valve cover turn the motor until the intake valve closes. double check the balancer you might see the timing mark.

if you can't, i'd remove the number one spark plug and feel for top dead center with a screwdriver and turning the motor by hand(do it slow and careful)

It sounds like the dist. is 180 degrees off. Take out the number one spark plug and put your finger over the hole (not in the hole) turn over the motor until you feel air pressure on your finger. This will be the piston coming up on TDC.
