For the first time ever, I've bolted on an 1100 carb and it worked perfeclty! I'm so pleased because I rebuilt it myself. I'd like to thank all you folks here because I probably never would have tried it if it weren't for you all.

THANKS everybody!

I've always thought of carbs as voodoo, really. Hey, now I know anyone can do it with patience and a good exploded diagram!

My amateur rebuild has cured my recurrent stalling issues when the car was hot.

Cheers,
Scott

Excellent, I read your post below....What do you think you did that pony carbs didn't?

My mistake, I see it was Kriek who was having all the problems...But it is inspiring to hear someone having done it themselves and done such a good job. Makes me think I might be able to do it to, I am looking at rebuilding the H/W 5200---I have never even looked into a carb for anything but priming when the fuel pump was giving out......

I bought one from Pony Carbs three or four years ago, but I took the car somewhere to get it tuned because it wouldn't idle well.

The sad thing is that I really don't know what I did! I just hope that I can do it again!

I think that having a running carb to reference made a big difference, though.

Carbs of our vintage are quite understandable. I found that if I had an extra carb and fooled around with it, testing the levers and such, what moves which and in what direction, I came to understand how the thing works.
If you get an introduction to carburation, the theory of the carburetor, it will become even more clear. Congrats to you. It's real satisfying isn't it?

Carb cleaner spray,
used with the little red straw,
helps a lot to see where all the passages go!!!

Once you see where the fuel flows, that will teach you a lot about how the carb works, too. I am 100% self taught.
