Instructions for Lynx Manifold on Log Head Needed

I have in my possession a Lynx alloy manifold that allows installation of three SU carbs onto a log head. Unfortunately, instructions were not included. Does anybody have the instructions, or know the procedure required to install this manifold.

I realize that the log head needs to be milled off at a certain angle, and a steel plate welded onto the head, but don't know the particulars.

Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Is it the one with 1¼" carb bores?

First step is to mill a plate out of 5/16" soft steel, to match the intake flange openings (go under by 3/32" all around) and fixing holes. Leave the perimeter somewhat oversize for now.

From memory the head is milled off at 30° to the vertical but check this figure by your manifold "wedge" angle. Take several passes with the mill (possibly tilt the table and flycut it). Keep checking the fit of your flange plate. When you get it sorted, trim the flange plate perimeter - bandsaw and linish should do at a pinch. Maybe instal a couple of alignment pins that are a slip-fit.

Braze the plate on. A blacksmith could do this better, but a decent sand bed and oxy ought to work. You'll have to play the heat over it for a good while afterwards, then bury in the sand to cool. Blend the ports and face off your flange plate.

To run HS-6 carbs (1½" butterflies) you'll need to carefully bore then blend the manifold.

Thanks for the info addo.

I measured the carb bores at 1-11/16 inches. Would the procedure for this one be different than what you stated?

Happy 2009 to you.

Not really. That's a good size to start from! Earlier ones were smaller.

This may not help much, but here's a shot of a couple SU's mounted on a log head.
Not the best pic, but it's all I have.

Here's some SU's on an OZ head.
Sweet looking setups, but hard to come by.
