Intercooler upside down?

Most intercoolers I have seen have the inlet/outlet at the bottom does anyone think that it will impair performance by much if the tube are at the top

makes no difference at all which way its mounted, its whatever makes the intercooler piping as short as possible from turbo to the cooler to the carby or throttle body... the intercooler in my XA is at the top and with my custom manifold the piping from the cooler to the throttle body is less than 12inches

what size cooler you running??? do you want intercooler install pics???

I don't think it really matters. The only reason I see to have the inlet/outlet on the lower part of the IC would be that heat rises, so this might dissipate the heat a little better. But I bet it wouldn't even be measurable.
In my opinion it's much more important that it has air flow, and that it physically fits in the car!

If you look at my car, you will see the tubes are on the bottom so they can run under the front bumper supports.

If I flip it so the tubes are on top, then I have to try to connect between the headlights!! That won't work....

Good to hear it fits much better with the pipes up top the intercooler core size is 450x300x75 . 630 at its widest point I would love to see pics of it in your XA thanks MRJLB84D

old topic I know but I have seen a reason why....

pulled some parts of a turbo volvo wagon once....intercooler was filled with oil form a blown compressor seal. car didn't run worth a snot with that big of a restriction on the intake.

Simple solution to oil in the IC....(other than fixing the problem)

Mount the BOV at the bottom of the IC. Everytime you close the throttle plates, you spray the oil everywhere!

If you duct it outside the car somewhere you could spray the guy next to you! LOL!
