Hey Thomas,

You are probably living on a strict budget. Don't let that get you down, you will have a super great car if you plan ahead and spend your money wisely.

... mabey thoese work ... the carb is the least of my worries ... last nite i went to start it up and my key turned all the way around .. looks like my ignitions stripped .. i went to auto zone and got the ignition cylinder and tried to replace it but it still wont turn (well when i turn it it just keeps goin in a complete circle) .. .haha no strict budget .. work about 20 hours a week part time .. would be more but gotta go to school (yea they make me) ... if anyone has any ideas about my igniton PLEASE help ...

Thomas

The ignition turning issue is with the locking ring/bezel that holds the assembly into place. The one on my '68 is 'loose' so I have to be careful when turning the key. When it works a bit looser I will take a flat nosed screwdriver and spin it back on (threaded). I doubt replacing the ignition switch helped at all.

Back in the day companies made special tools for removing/reinstalling the bezels. They were round with special teeth that fit into the three slots that are cut into the ring. You need to be careful if you use the screwdriver method like me because if you slip off you will scratch your dash paint.

I am digging the two tone interior, so many of our mustangs are black..

welcome

Thanks for the info ... what should I do to fix it though?

Thomas

Disconnect your battery, I usually disconnect the negative post. Next stick your head under the dash and make sure the wires going to your ignition switch are not all twisted up, if they are then untwist them. Then turn the key (don't let the wires get twisted together) in the OFF position until it is verticle (straight up and down). Hold it with one hand to keep it from rotating, while tightening down the front bezel as much as you can by hand/finger first, and then use a small prying device (like a screwdriver) in the grooves to tighten it up the rest of the way. It does not need to be super tight, just enough to keep it from rotating when you turn the key.
