hehe, been driving around in the XA but since fitting the intercooler i thought i might be a little cheeky and leave it there and far out the looks i get now are crazy! so many "what the f&#k" comments its pretty cool i must say  now just need some cash to get that new motor in, but unfortunatly, this later part of the year sucks in the cash flow department so nothing new i dont think til after summernats in the new year:(

anyways, took another pic, just to tease you all and myself some more :) :( why i do this to myself i dont know hehe

they all start somewhere xecute
mine decided the fully kill the ticking lifter that has been annoying me for months :(

can i pull lifters from my spare xflow motor and chuck in the pre xflow thats in the car now? dont wanna buy new lifters for a motor thats comming out soon thats all

HELP!

Option 1: Live with it.

Option 2: Rip the existing lifter out and replace it with another from your other engine. It will break the camshaft even if you add a smear of moly. The lifter must have the correct machined diameter on it, or it will crap out. Each lifter is different, no two alike, and so a foriegn lifter will break.

Option 3: See this http://www.thedirtforum.com/ubb/Forum20/HTML/003095.html

Joyless #$%% aint I?

Lifters have a 40" base radius. I reckon you could be really crude and reface them by suspending from a 38½" wire directly above an inverted belt sander with 220 belt.

Problem is though, the cam lobe is probably already history.

Nifty - do you have a shot from more side on so we can see the wheels??

think i may just live with it....guess you learn something new everyday! wont be getting driven much anyway so i chose the live with it option but thanks guys!

hey, try throwing some (a pint) of transmission fluid in the engine oil sump. It can sometimes fix a noisy tappet. It's probably not great for the engine, but if its coming out, no biggy. You could also try a disassembling and cleaning the noisy tappet, maybe, addo might be able to shoot some holes in this or the other theory.

i dunno if i meantioned before but when i did the oil change i added some of that "lifter free" additive aswell

i might do another oil change and put penrite's thicker 25w/70 in to see how that goes? ive used it before in the motor with no dramas

I've been told that the 25w70 oil will cause problems with spitting out pushrods due to the thicker oil not allowing the lifters to bleed down fast enough - was recommended to use 20w50 only...

MRJLB84D I just wanna say that your car looks sick. Mate I absolutely love old cars with nice paint, wheels and turbo 6's.

Good luck with the project.

thanks thek!

and xecute, YES, YES I DO!!!!!!! just need that stuff we all love to have, MONEY!!!!!!!

im at the stage as to weather or not to re rego the car next month, or, save the money, get everything done, engineered, blue slip etc and back on the road in the new year.

Gunna rip the head off the old motor next week, just to see if it is a lifter or a shagged pushrod, if it an easy fix with spares i got laying around it may help with the rego idea as i really wanna drive the car to summernats in january, unfortunatly wont be entering her :(

if the motor aint worth fixing, then no rego.

Also, does anyone know, seeing as im fitting the same size engine but only turbo, does the car HAVE to be engineered? i keep hearing conflicting stories

Here in Vic any engine that is n/a and gets boosted must have an engineers approval.

This assumes the same model car, with the same engine, never came out with boost. If it did, no engineers required.
