K&N

Not to hijack the thread, but in keeping with some of the conversations about air filters and all, I have a question. I had an "older" oil-bath type air cleaner on my 200cid engine until recently when I bought an after-market paper element type air cleaner that is on there now. Here is the question: with the oil bath air cleaner there was a 3/4" approx. rubber hose running from the top of the air cleaner to the breather cap on top of the valve cover. Since the new air cleaner is not set up for this rubber hose connection, what difference will it make????Any??? Should I just buy a new breather cap that does not have the fitting connection coming out of the side of the breather cap??? Will it have any affect on the engine if I run with this old breather cap fitting/connection open to the atmosphere??? Is it only dust particles that would get in through this opening that would be of concern?? Thanks! Jim

If you want to vent the breather to the atmosphere, you should get some type of breather that has a screen or a valve in it so that the oil in the valve cover doesn't splash out of it all over your engine bay. Other than that and the pollution from the blow-by going to the atmosphere, there is no harm to it.
