Man you gotta love the Oz 250 head!

She ended up with a 11.81@116 in the 1/4 with a lousy 2.1 60' time. The DA was hovering around 4000'. All this at only 15lbs. of boost.

Unfortunately she lost in the first round because the carb hat gasket blew out and it would only hold 13lbs. of boost, so she slowed to a 12.36.

I'm pretty sure that at 18-20lbs. of boost we should make the power required to get close to or into the 10's! I'm finally confident enough in the new carb to start turning up the wick!

We'll keep trying!

Amazing! I am sitting here literally salivating.

I can't wait to see what you/she runs with Mike's head on boost.

Will... sounds to me like the car is not picking up in the back half like it should be. 16-17mph is a very low mph to pick up in the back half for a car going almost 100 in the 1/8th. With everything sorted out I would expect it to pick up around 24-26 at the minimum. I'm sure you already realize this. Does the car seem to greatly run out of steam or slow down past the 1/8th?

Rogue,
She was pedaling it.

We run the PSCA Open Comp class. The dial-in is based on the best qualifying pass, minus a 1/10 (tenth breakout). So we didn't want to go too fast, just to make sure we could cover the number.
So her dial-in during Elims was an 11.71.

The 116mph probably would've been 120 or so.

Gravelrash,
The carb is a Holley 450cfm, mechanical secondaries, 4bbl.
I of course mod'd it for blow-thru status. I also had to change the idle air bleeds in it. They were HUGE from the factory. At the track I had to use .060" diameter wire that I stuck down the bleeds to richen up the mixture at idle.

I did take a couple of pics but I haven't downloaded them off the camera. I'll get them up after the weekend.

KEWL!

Kelly keeps it up, shes gonna be running faster than your Mustang!

Better update your signature!

Does the 250 motor want to RPM higher / easier now with the OZ head on it??

You need to adress the carb hat gasket in a different matter..... I recall other blow outs of the same gasket?

Will,
Do you feel it has benifited from the 4bbl? reason i asked is i have a 600dp but i am about to try a 500 2bbl instead on my combo.

i use the standard thick paper gaskets and have never had a problem. although i use 5/16" threaded rod instead of the normal 1/4" to hold the hat on. maybe thats the trick?

hasa68,
We're just using the standard ol' gasket. I don't even know who make them!
I just picked up one that's rubber. K&N makes it. It's more plyable so it'll seal better; but for how long is the question. So we may try it.

Or.....

Don's Hot Rod Shop here in Tucson has a 3/8" tall aluminum aircleaner spacer that has an O-ring already machined into it. I can just weld it to the hat.

Gravelrash,
On the old 350 Holley I did drill/tap the hold down to 5/16". The only reason I did it was that I stripped out the 1/4" one because I was tightening it so tight!
The next time I have the carb off I'll do go ahead and do that.

do you have a part number for the K&N one? a rubber one would work alot better than my cardboard cork one or whatever...

Nope! My buddy who works for a local Hot Rod shop just took it out of a new K&N filter box and replaced it with a standard paper one.
But he said he can order up some. How many do you want?

Don't you just love messing around with all those internal air bleeds (IAB's), idle feed restrictors (IFR's) and high speed air bleeds (HSAB's)?

Yeah I went ahead and tapped the IAB's so I could quit using so much wire, I was afraid it would fall into the carb. The IFR's still have some 0.015" wire in them, though.

And I still need to put more wire in the pvcr's that I drilled out to much...might just tap those, too.

Congrat's to Kelly and you, keep up the great work!
