Hi All,

Well, after learning of the infamous cowl vent leak, I purchased a popular cowl cover that works wonders! Except for the fact that I still have a leak coming down on my passengers feet. At least the cover fixed the major leaking, especially on my feet! It looks as though the heater plenum was replaced just before I got the car a few months ago. However, the heater case (with the little door on the right hand side) has practically rusted off! Does anyone know what it takes to remedy this leak...perhaps it's just a matter of replacing this $200 heater case or perhaps there's more work involved! Any help is, as always, appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!

P.s. I just remembered, I'm going to be purchasing new tires for my ride soon - keep in mind I use her as a daily driver in los angeles - what do you all recommend for tire size? Should I stick with what the original set up was or do any of you have any particular combinations that you prefer? thanks!

I had the problem you described but mine was my windshield leaking... I also havea cowl cover and I use it whenever it rains just to prevent future rust problems..

depends whats leaking...is it coolant or water?

water: then its the front windsheild gasket. if its water, its doubtful its coming thru the heater box...THIS IS MOST LIKELY. You can have one replaced CHEAP. A very good investment

coolant: get a new heater core and/or check the hoses on the back

Okay...it's definitely water that's leaking on the passenger side floorpan....Not a flood of water, but just a leak that's noticeable and annoying. National parts depot says $14.95 for a windeshield weatherstipping...that doesn't sound bad but what do i do to install it?? I would imagine that I would have to remove the windshield, no??

Thanks for your feedback!

well I put my windshield in new and it had a small leak so I used a bit of sealant fo some kind (black and in a caulking type tube (very messy)) and put it all the way aroudn and it fixed it... to replace that weather stripping you have to get the window out and not break the windshield which is the tricky part.. then theres some string trick my dad tought me but I dunno how to explain it...

*sigh* my car leaks coolant when it starts to get hot. just as long as i keep the fluids up it is fine though. looks like ill be spending money on a new heater core sometime soon aswell...

The heater core is not that tough to replace. When I replaced my hoses since they were so old, I had a really hard time getting them off the orignal core. To make a long story short, it cracked the original core. After realizing that was the problem, I pulled the whole heater box and everything. It is not that tough. Get new seals, and it won't rattle anymore (at least mine rattled). Make sure you label whihc hose goes where, and attach the hoses and clamps before re-installing the whole heater box. Either use new hoses, or disconnect them from the water pump. It makes it a TON easier. In my opinion, the least amount of time I have to spend laying on my back over the hump working, the better.

When my Mustang was the daily driver I went through a period where the windshield leaked like crazy. I was driving through MO and had a couple of inches of water on the inside on time. It sucked balls. I tried fixing it with caulk, and it slowed it down, but didn't solve it. Eventually, I just bought a new seal and had a windsheild repair company come pull the widshield, and put a new one in. It was well worth the $.

pulling glass is easy if you are putting in a new seal....just cut the old one from the inside and outside until you can just lift it out (thats how I did my rear window) the rope trick to install is to take a length of cord about 20' long or so and wrap it in the channel of the gasket where the sheetmetal will sit. lay the glass on the car and pull the rope through the opening. I did my rear window on my own the first try. I had about 8" that didn't pull so I used this hook tool thingy my father has for doing glass to finish pulling that short amount of lip over. I need to do my windshield soon but I kinda have been putting it off until I am ready for paint (just about am now)
