I think I have what is a loadomatic dizzy, ie spring loaded advance plate connected to the advance unit. I was in the process of installing the pertronix unit (1261) and I'm stumped as to how it goes in. I'm thinking I got the wrong unit in the right box. And before you ask why I went with pertronix, it came with the car, uninstalled. I figure pertronix is better than points. Anyone have a pic they can share?

Look at the shaft your rotor button clips onto. Is it solid metal with a flat milled on one side? If so, then you've a Load-O-Matic.

That's it. That's what I have. But what troubles me is if you look in the Pertronix catalog online, looks like they have it backwards. Still, seems like plenty of people on here have them. I just have a sinking feeling they boxed the wrong one up. Oh well. Another question, I set the timing to 8B. I ran out of room, I wanted to take it to 10 to see if it ran any better and the advance canister hits into the block. I was thinking the dizzy is out a tooth?

Retard your timing to zero, then hop all your plug leads back one position (move them counterclockwise).

You'll now have to retard the timing some more, as it will be almost 60° advanced - but there will be room to turn the housing. No need to remove the distributor.

Addo, thanks very much. Its been awhile since I worked on old cars. Its the little things I am forgetting. Guess I have something to do tomorrow. Thanks again, Brian
