I want to use the roller rockers that ci sells for the reduced friction and heat if nothing else so I want to be careful how big a cam I put in as the new rockers will add lift.

The money spent on those roller rockers might be put to better use elsewhere on your build.
There is very little performance gain to be had unless you're running WOT or racing.

The performance gains of the roller rockers will be realized in the reduced heat and friction leading to reduced where and improved fuel economy which overtime will offset some of the initial cost. It will also lead to a quieter,smoother more pleasurable car to drive.

X2 the 72 170 engine is much better. You could put your stock valve cover on it and paint and detail it the correct factory colors and almost no one will know that its not original.
