Low power from idle

Hi I just recently put my Mustang together. I bought it used with a lot of work already done. Most of it was improperly done and I had to rebuild the engine due to this reason. I rebuilt the engine going 30 over, balanced, put a large log head on with the 38 Weber 2 barrel conversion done, 302 valve springs, roller rockers, 264 duration cam-unsure of other details but going by what I was told, Mallory Ignition system with CDI box, MSD 8.5 wires and MSD plugs, Dual outlet header with duals through xpipe through 2" resonators, ARP head studs and rod bolts. It runs very good overall without any hesitations at all but from idle it doesn't seem to accelerate as fast as I would expect. Other than from a stop the car seems to run similar to a stockish small block v8. Also I noticed when in drive the cruiseamatic trans pulls out in 2nd gear. It will pull out in first gear when you manually shift it. But even when in first it still doesn't meet my expectations. Any ideas on these two issues? I know the cam may be the issue here for off idle. I'm not looking to race it or I would have went the v8 route but an occasional burnout would be nice.

thanks

I will need to do some research on this, but an upgrade to that 65 C-4 is to install a valve body for a 67-70 C-4.
Ford redesigned the valve body in 67.
Be sure to install a Trans-Go shift kit, but leave the stock kickdown spring in the valve body. The Trans-Go spring is way to strong when you floor the throttle into the detent lever mode it almost bends the linkage.

If the cam is installed straight up, advancing it might give you a bit more bottom end torque.
Might also want to look at having your torque converter modified to a higher stall.
Rear gear ratio?

Howdy Mustanger:

What is the static compression on this engine? What is the initial advance setting? Low compression ratio and/or not enough initial timing may be contributing to your problem.

Adios, Davi

Did you advance the camshaft??
What are your distributor specs such as total advance, initial advance??
Have you done a cranking compression readings?
Need more information, before i can suggest anything.
You have two problems, transmission & low end power.
With the 264 camshaft you could benefit with a looser converter.

I didn't check the rear gears but it has the stock rear. As far as compression goes I requested between 9 to 9.5 the transmission is the factory c4.
I set the timing at 12 but don't know the distributor advance specs
I believe the cam is set factory marks. I think I have a compression gauge that I could check the compression
I think I got most of the questions answered but I have a few more specs to figure out.
Thanks for everyone's help

You can Check the drivers side door tag for the rear axel code or if it still has the ID tag on the rear axels differential cover. Good luck
