well, not a muffler, more of a resonator. but here's what I'm going to do. take 3" exh pipe ( 12" ) and 2 3"- 2.5" ID connectors, then take a length of 2.5" OD pipe, with holes drilled in it, and slide it right thru the 3" and weld everything up. Glasspack without the glass really

Basically you made a motorcycle muffler, cool. I've heard of some guys using them on V-8's and they sound good.

well, I just picked up the muffler parts. $51 worth of exhaust peices from carquest ( 2.5" and 3" stuff is expensive ). it took a matter of seconds to put the outer shell togther it's only 3 peices a 3" id/ id connector ( 12" long, has 2 flared out ends to 3" ID ) and 2 3" OD-2.5" ID connectors in which the center 2.5" pipe will slide right into, I first have to drill a number of holes ( 6 rows of 5/16" maby 1" spacing ) in the center pipe first b4 I slide it in, and weld it up. I'll post pics.

i can tell you it will be very loud... but nice, i built one almost identical to that for a forklift at work, it does sound pretty cool though because it has a flat-head inline6

personally, I don't mind the $51 price tag I paid for the parts. it will give me somthing to do, and I can have it any way I want, drill holes in a spiral or big/ little holes, all will change the sound diffrently.

If I can build something that is twice is expensive and almost as good as the part from the shop, I'll go for it! But then again, I have an incurable case of inline fever....
if you are going to a turbo why run a muffler?
I always got really good sound by using a pair of large long tips (like 2.5" - 3" straight tips) about 24" long or so. give a nice low rumble at idle,

I understand what would happen if you throw a glasspack in the incenerator.
Most people like to warm up their new exhaust and shoot water up the tail pipe to do the same.
Just never made sense to me why anyone would do that, no performance gain, so whats the point, ya want loud, dont put a muffler on it?
I understand wanting control over the design but there is science behind exhaust sound, way beyond my understand, good luck though.
I will look for a video, as Id like to hear it when your done.
Most people like to warm up their new exhaust and shoot water up the tail pipe to do the same.

It still amazes me to see people ask "why would you do that" on this board
