Hi.

Did any of the late model 200 cylinder heads come with a bolted on intake manifold? I am replacing the gasket and going for bigger valves and I would love to be able to port the head and hohn the manifold. (I'ts called hohning the inside of the manifold in english, right?) I've heard stories of a '73 engine which someone was supposed to have cut off the manifold, welded on it some bolt mounts and found a way to fasten it to the head.. I find it very unlikely, but, with a cutting tool, a good weld and total lack of thinking, I suppose anything is possible.. Anyway is this possible without buying an aftermarket head?

HI
and yes it has been done, (cutting the log off and making a bolt on intake).
I can't find it right now but I'm sure someone can give you a link to that. Its actualy called porting Honeing is what is done to the cylenders, and baren saddles.. out side of boring.
I beleve the only heads that don't have the manifold attached is the Oz head's. and AzCoupe is making some aluminum heads for the I-6 too. There is a sticky about them in the forum page.. I think you may be able to take the ends off the log and hone it through there but I'm not sure...
You might want to look for a newer head one with a bigger log (what the intake is called on these heads). It would be wider and flat on the top.. Offy makes a bolt on 3X1 carb set up but you do have to do some cutting and grinding.
It all depends on how much $$ you want to spend.

Hi and thanks alot for the swift reply.

I already have a 2brl Holley and an adapter from Clifford performance and I am sticking with the Ford head so I would really like some pics and such of creating a bolt on log if anyone has performed this operation! Do you know when the bigger log heads came on the market? I must find out exactly how old my engine is, I belive it is around '79. Is there a serial number on the head or is the one on the engine block all I have?

Thanks, Hjörleifur.

By the way, there is a link to some pictures on the introduction site..

Yes there should be a Code on the head and the block..
It should start with eather C, D or E then a number followed by ov......
C = 60's
D = 70's
E = 80's
for the decade follow by the specfic year if yours is a 79 it should read
D9ov-
Sorry but I don't remember what years the bigger log cam on.. I'm thinking late 70's so you might have the big log aready.. when doing the valve job get at least a 3 angle and have them cut back the intake's this well alow for more fuel to go in (kind of fools the motor)..

Brilliant!

Shure glad I found this site.. I belive I will become a regular in here. Thanks for your help!

Hi again.

As I mentioned, I'm going for bigger valves in the 200 head. Which valves should I aim for? I am not going for street performance but off road and track driving so torque is the main goal. I've already got headers and a 2brl Holley (as mentioned before).

Thanks,

Hjörleifur.
