Mega Squirt Question

This is all 'what if' at this point. I have no experience with say a mega squirt setup, but I'm hoping somebody may be able to provide some insight. A friend and I were brain storming about different ways to address forced induction, and I came up with this.

Could you take a stock ford EFI engine and use say a mega squirt setup on it? The goal would be to do away with the emissions, extra wires & vaccumn lines, and the stock ECU setup.

Ofcourse this would be used as a completely off road, non street legal setup. But would it be possible with either the Mega Squirt ingnition setup or an MSD with the stock distrubitor, coil, and TFI module?

Depends on the interactions between the ecu and the other computers/sensors. Sometimes abs, transmission control, climate control and other things are tied in together. Are you talking about just replacing the PCM (powertrain control module)? On an older model, OBD-I or thereabouts, there shouldn't be too many problems because everything is less complex.

EDIT: The computers also control lighting, the guage cluster, etc. Not something I'd want to fool with.

The target car was my 91 Topaz with OBD-I. IIRC, the ECU only controls very limited (by today's standards) engine, and does not control the tranny or any interior options.

Except for the small gain that would come from eliminating the MAF restriciton, swapping ECUs for a Megasquirt would gain you nearly zero hp over the stock setup.

The only way this makes sense is if you were to add cam, intake, fuel, or displacement mods that the EEC ECU couldn't handle.

Reading the product info on their site. They state that the MAP comes factory configured (or able to handle) 21 PSI. I was thinking that was were the real strength would lie. Not to mention being able to eleminate alot of the extra wires and vaccumn lines.
