im looking at buying a 80s mustang with a i6 and converting it to a 5speed. and am just wondering what kind of gas milage they get. of should i just go with a 2.3 that all ready has a 5speed.

My 1980 mustang with the 4 speed SROD which I'm told is pretty close mileage wise, did about 23 or so on the highway doing 70ish, and significantly less in town but i had a tough time keeping my foot out of it. I'm not really gifted at tuning motors so I'm sure there could be some more gains there.

cool thanks man. my dads got a a 93 2.3 with a t5 and it gets about 24-26 so its a toss up between the 6 and the 4. i like both and i would like to turbo eather one. the 2.3 has more backing for turboing seeing how there was a factory one. but a 80's fox with a l6T with a t5 would be a bad car and mabe even a sleeper. seeing how its "just a 6cylinder" 
My 80 200/c4 got about 28mpg with 2.73 rear and p215/60-14 tires.
Aso took out all weight i could and drove on highway about 50-55mph to and from work.

well that about how im going to drive it. my 04 focus get 32+ but im paying on it also. a 80mustang for 1000 or so would get close about cost me less.

Dont laugh but I highly recommend a wash and wax, proper or slightly high tire inflation, a good alingment, and a good tune up.
Made a noticeable difference on my cars mileage.
