I want to build a 250

crossflow head
260 cam
headers
2 barrel carb

new ignition system (simple)

to get started will a 200 block fit 250 crank, mains, rods, pistons, rings?

I think this is what I need:
used block $100?
crank,rods pistons ect, $400
crossflow $675
cam 260
headers
carb 2 barrel
distributer
coil
plugs
wires
module

am i forgeting anything?
how much does a build like this usually cost?

8) the crank wont fit, but the pistons are the same, as are the rings. the bearings are also different(iirc).

if you are thinking of using a crossflow head like jack is using on his 200, read the tech section of this site for the trials and tribulations jack went through to get the crossflow head to work on his engine(it is still in the running prototype stage). if one the other hand you are thinking about the 250 2v head, it is NOT a crossflow, but it is a bolt on conversion.

as for the cost of the block and crank, i bought a complete 250, with log head, for $60 last year. you should be able to build the engine complete for about $1000 depending on how much work you can do yourself, ($1500 if you have most of the work farmed out).

I want this to compete with a 4.2 v6
should I go with 9.1 or 9.5 compression?

if i use 200 rods I may need to work with the combustion chamber, mabe say two head gasgets?

8) if you want 250ci, then start with a 250 block. use the aussie 250 2v head, 2.5L tempo rods and pistons, and if you use the 250 block go with the csc274 cam that fordsixparts.com sells. it is going to be a bit lopey but should still be very streetable. get your compression to around 9.5:1, and run at least 89 octane, more likely 91 would be better though. depending on the 4.2 V6 you plan on matching, you should come pretty close. oh use the fordsixparts dual outlet header if you can.

With the 2.3L HSC flat tops and 2.5L HSC rods and assuming your head CCs out to 58ccs, you're CR will be closer to 11:1  . The 2.5L HSC rods and pistons combo will have your pistons sticking out.
