does anyone know where i can get a mini high torque starter?

or will the one's they make for the 289/302 fit?

thanks for any help

No, you have to go with the FE motor starters. Check a catalog like NPD and you'll notice the numbers for the FE motors are the same as the 200's.

actually i think that the 250 will accept a small block's starter
just in case you have one of those
if not, then yeah, FE series engine

thanks for all your help

so an FE motor will definitely work? the part numbers are the same?

im gonna check the bolt patter on my buddies small block and see

My experience with OEM starters has been that the early 3-bolt starters are the same as FE, the early (high mount) 2-bolt starters are unique to the straight sixes, and the later (low mount 200 & 250) 2 bolt starters are the same as small block Ford.

Both type of 2 bolt starters actually have the same bolt pattern, but the early starter nose puts the plunger and power stud in the right place so it doesn't hit the block in a high mount configuration. That said, some universal aftermarket starters allow you to align the body of the starter how you want, so that design of starter would probably interchange between the high mounted six and SBF as well.

My father in law got one for his 302 from a place called j&m speed center and it fit right in. That place is here in riverside ca. but if you check round your area for speed shops they might have one. He just told him what he was runnin and they hooked him up. If you need the number here, i'll get it for you just let me know.....jake

will it make a difference how many teeth i have on my flywheel?

so i can use a 2 bolt starter?

sorry maybe im confused on what you are sayin...just trying to get the right part

jake_ster i should be able to get one at a speed shop around here or from summit or sumtin...thanks for the offer

C Sports Racers?
Wicked fast but also wickedly expensive.

I'm as bad as anyone else when it comes to throwing acronyms and abbreviations around, but CSR has me stumped.

You have to be carefull which starter you buy. For example the Powermaster Mini has the power connection on the block side. Here is an example of what I mean. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-FE- ... enameZWD1V

Now check out this starter (I know it is not a mini but it just acts as an example of the connection) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STARTER- ... enameZWDVW

With some starters since the connection is on the block side it will be too close to the headers and of course the block. Look for a clockable starter which has adjustable positions.

65 coupe

thanks for the input...i definitely plan to get a clockable starter

Given all of the above. Would a SBF two bolt fit a high mount 2 bolt six with a manual trans?

Thanks,

Mike
