I recently purchased a 1959 fairlane galaxie 500 the engine has not run for a couple of years, I'm missing the starter I have no idea where to get it. I have tried pep boys and their data base only goes back to 1965. can anyone share some info or does anyone have one that I can purchase??
I also found an inline 6 on craigslist $400.00 with low miles since rebuilt can I install a 260 inline to the 223 tranny? Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if its a 1961/1964 262 i6 it will bolt in place of a 223 if its a 260 V8 it will not try a old local parts house not like pep boys is there a picture of the 260 in craigslist how do you find it in the list

Some of this may help. C2AZ 11350-C. Motorcraft SD-132. B8c 11002-A. C1AZ 1102-A. C2AZ 11350-B.
The 223 starter drive is pulled in from the rear of the flywheel, rather than being pushed to the rear as on most other setups. There were two types of the pull-ins, One had hidden drive spring and the other had a visible drive spring. The starter drives should be the 11350 numbers. The starter drive will most likely have to be bought separately from the starter.
The B8 number may be replaced by the C1 number.
You may want to check some implement dealers in your area cause some of the old Ford farm tractors may have the starter you need. Back then, this engine was also used as an industrial engine and can be found in a lot of older non-related equipment. Rock Crushers, Hay Balers, Irrigation Pumps, and a lot of others.
You should let us know where you are hiding as there may be someone local that may be able to help.
You might do a search on ebay, as things sometimes show up there. Check around your local area for Alt-Gen-Starter Rebuilders.

thanks for all the info about my 223 cuin fairlane. to answer one of your questions you can google craigslist (and the area where you live) for example I live in San Diego Ca. so I type craigslist san diego then on the next page just click the first line then a separete page will open just double click on auto parts. then on the search window on top of the screen I typed ford motor and i was able to find just about anything. All the info on numbers was very helpfull however I dont know if I only need the startere or the gear drive as well. I guess I can contact rockauto and find out.

You might also try your local NAPA. They carry and have available a lot of older vehicle parts. I still get all my gaskets and stuff for my 223 from them.

Just found out this morning, Parts America = Checker carries a starter for the 223. Rebuilt $130+ 25 core. Includes bendix.
