Let me get this straight. With new rings, bearing, milled head and valve job(?) you are saying, "also because it sounded like something was ready to grenade in the valve train " Hummmm. What do you have the valve lash set at? What do you have for an initial advance setting?

A 170 with your mods should easily rev to 4,000 and more.

Is your dual outlet a header?
