just got motor in the ole falcon ,79 fairmont 200 with dura spark ing. timing is set at 14btdc . motor runs fine at idle but when you accelerate motor wants to cut out. everything on this motor is brand new fuel pump carb spark plug wires dist cap rotor button. spark plugs are gapped at 35 dont know what to try next any pointers would be appreciated maybe im overlooking something. thanx cocacolaman

no differance you can ease on the gas and as it accelerates it starts to cut out almost like it starving for gas. it has a autolite 100 carb from pony carbs thought it was in carb so i put on my old one which was working fine on my 170 motor but stills cuts out when accelerating

the first carb was brand new rebuild from pony carbs never had been run . the second carb was on my 170 motor ran good on it only sat about 2 weeks

When you replaced the carb, did you also replace the fuel filter? I've seen partially clogged filters cause the exact problem that you are having. Even if the filter is new, I'd check to insure that it hasn't been clogged by new contaminants. Pull the filter and make that you can blow through it freely.

did that already. even put a new filter on no results. the dizzy is making a funny noise inside it pulled vacume line off and it stopped making noise. i did have dizzy recurved from some shop in calif the guy at pony carbs said i needed to have that done.

one other note. drove car and motor completely shut off pulled over to try and restart. motor acted like it was not firing at all . popped hood and puled vacume hose off dizzy vacume advanced and motor started right up ,still cut out under load. seems like its in the dizzy area but dont know what.

Sorry you are having this problem. Need more information on the year, carburator, distributor & are you using a msd or what kind of ignition are you are running?

If you remove the vacuum advance vacuum line does the engine perform ok??

What voltage do you have at the coil?? You need to by pass the resistor to the coil for a full 12 volts +. William

the motor is out of a1979 fairmont. carb is autolite 1100 ,duraspark ing. when you pull vacume from dizzy motor still runs fine at idle but cuts out under load. the dizzy has been rebuilt and recurved whatever that means. hope this helps i really think its something to do with dizzy just dont know what

This is not the problem, but regap your plugs to .045 with the duraspark distributor.

Run a fuel pressure check & a fuel pump volume sample.

Since you have a duraspark, what ignition box do you have???

Need more information, as what year vehicle & model you have & everything in the engine department???? William

ok ill try to list everthing. motor is rebuilt .40 over has duraspark ing. with stock modual which is new. everthing new coil plugs wires cap rotor button plugs set ar.35 timing set at 14 btdc. carb is rebuilt autolite 1100 from pony carbs pacemaker headers with x pipe and dual exhaust with flow master mufflers. clifford port devider. dizzy has been recurved.as i said earlier something is making a noise inside dizzy when it is running at idle. when i remove the vacume line from the dizzy the noise stops. but the motor still cuts out.

Have you checked the spark quality with the engine idling? Run it with one lead off and watch the spark.

forgot to mention motor is 79 fairmont 200 6 cylinder and is in a 63 falcon. also has new fuel pump and new fuel filter. everthing is new and i went by the performance handbook when building this motor. i guess you can get new parts that are bad. just dont know what to check next. my guess is the dizzy is not advancing like it should be but dont know how to check that.

i have pulled each wire off 1 at a time and motor dies down like its supposed to. then when i put that wire back on it picks back up.

But - what does the spark from the pulled lead look like :?:

That is what I'm asking. Is it big, fat and blue?

I had a similar (?) problem with my 250 that would nearly die under a load (up hills). Turns out that despite replacing nearly everything including the fuel filter, I had a chunk of debris in the fuel line between the filter and the carb fuel line nipple. I had neglected to replace that little section of tubing and it took me 4 months the find the problem. If you want to read all about my misadventure and see the little foam chunk, then go to: http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20680&highlight=

The noise from your distributor is the advance plate rising up and colliding with the rotating reluctor. Whoever built the distributor did a bad job.

is this normal , will it cause my problem im having, and what do i do to fix it
