I'm looking at replacing the motor mounts on my 66 Convertible. I have a suspicion they may be bad. They also look cracked.

In searching the web for new ones, I've found that they are different between 66 and 68. I have a 66 with a 68 200 engine in it. Also the right hand convertible mount seems to be different.

Anyone had any problems with finding the correct replacements? I've done a search and read ll the old posts, but none mentioned that a convertible's could be different.

ANy problem with jacking the motor up slightly removing the old mounts (both) and replacing a few days later. Or should I let the motor down and rest on the empt mount braces?

Thanks any suggestions.

In addition to stock replacements, there is a member on this forum (can't recall who) who makes custom mounts that add some difrferent capabilities (like fitting a 250 under the stock hood).

Anyone? Bueller?

According to my

catalog, no special mounts are needed for a vert.

A 66-200 uses part# MT2226 and MT2226

MUSTANG L6 200 (3.3L)
79-82 Front Left and Right - MT2385
67-69 Front Right - MT2333
67-69 Front Left - MT2333
65-66 Front Right - MT2225
65-66 Front Left - MT2226
82 Trans - MT2530
80-81 Trans w/ exc w/ C4-AT - MT2389
80-81 Trans w/ C4-AT - MT2388
65-70 Trans - MT2253

I will be adding Corteco Motor Mounts to my stock items within the next 7-10 days. I've added the page for them, just no part numbers or prices yet. I will be stocking five part numbers: MT2225, MT2226, MT2333, MT2341 and MT2385. These five fit nearly all 62-79 170/200/250ci applications.

I already stock the Corteco WhiteSeal Technologyâ„¢ gaskets (complete engine sets, head gasket only, and head sets) for the 170/200/250ci. Prices are listed.

Problem is, it's a 66 convertible body with a 68 engine...does that matter?
Here are two images of each side. If you have these for about the same as Cal_mustangs (for example about $14 ea) I'd rather buy them from you at FSPP to support the forum.

Steve-O,
I don't know if this helps you, but your mounts are very different from the ones on my 65 coupe. Mine are much wider where they attach to the block and they have a single bolt attaching through the rubber instead of the two bolts on the outside.

My local shop's catalog lists convertable specific mounts only for 289s and larger.

My '66 coupe also had mounts like Scott describes.

Steve-O,

those mounts look like the same ones I've seen on Mavericks.

those are probably the stock 68 mounts i had the same problem with my 69 motor in a 66 they had the stock 69 mounts and the engine barely fit under the hood so i swapped for the stock 66 mounts and fit like a charm

Acording to my consumer guide and other sources, there were quite a few changes in mounts over the years.
First 60 to 62 144 and 170 Falcons used old fashioned mounts,

then the 63 to 66 kind were like this one stolen from Chris (thanks Chris, and no, I didn't ask your permision).

67 to 69 had another change

Then the 'Centre Percusion' mounts came out in the 69 Mustang/Torino 250 and then the April 1969 Maverick. These were designed around a three bolt per mount block, from memory. Early little I6 ones are two bolters, but the later mounts can only be retro fitted with a bit of effort. Some cars ran the integrated cross member, and some mounts have to be sources via the aftermarket. The third bolt is mearly a support stap to force the engine under the car during a crash, so later 170-200 blocks can fit the early mounts without any worries at all.

The same thing happened on both sides of the Pacific in the early 70's! Many early two bolt round and Mustangs run around with three bolt blocks. If you leave the post 1962 engine mounts the same, all except the US 250 engine will fit with ease.

You may notice that all the 144 TO 250's run transfer lugs, a blank blind hole, drilled out for the 7/16 motor mount bolts. Some latter Fox.Mav/Granada engines have a whole line of them for A/C,air pump, three point mounts, power steering etc. Many bosses and fittings appeared a few years before they were needed.

Harrie has been pretty smart with his custom steel mounts here. These suit the early block arrangement. (Thanks Harrie, shameless plug, dude!)
