Anyone know where I'd find info on MustangSix's 250 swap in a Mustang? Can't seem to find it anywhere. The forum archives don't seem to go all the way back to when I was told I'd find the articles in question.

Naw, that's not it. I had heard, perhaps erroneously, that he had done the swap into a fox body himself, and that there were a series of archived posts about the progress of the project dating from about '02.

I suppose the best thing for me to do at this point is to just get myself the engine off my friend's farm, and start test fitting the whole mess.

In the meantime, do any of you know where I might find some good images of the 250, including oilpans and that sort of detail?

Thanks again,
Jim

Jim:

If your looking to put a 250 into a Fox body you will need to make a custom oil pan as Ford never made a rear sump pan for a 250.

I posted some info back then about it as I have a 250 in a 1981 Mustang.

Back when? I have no problem fabbing a pan or modifying an existing one, but it's always good to have solid research on your side.

Also, do you or anyone else know precisely what the differences between the 2 different K members are? I assume one pushes further forward than the other at the bottom section or something like that?

I'll be using completely fabricated mounts to get the engine as low as possible in the car. As yet however, I haven't even picked up the engine yet. That's gonna take a week or two, since I've got to go out to farm country to get it.

thanks for your help,
Jim

Yes the two K-members are different.
You want to use one for the 3.3L (200 cu.in) six
The other one is the V-8 & 4 cyl.
As far as engine mounts go, I used 1971 Maverick motor mounts on mine.
The 81 Mustang mounts sat the motor too high in the engine compartment & I didn't want to put on a Pro Stock style hoodscoop.

Using the Maverick mounts lowers the motor so that there is only about 1/8" clearance between the bottom of the oil pan & the top of the rack & pinion.

As far as fabbing a pan, I used the top of a 250 pan & the sump of the 200 pan & mated them togother, similar to Xtaxi's photos in the above post.

Other than that, I run the C-4 the car came with & a 2400 stall converter & shift kit (but will be switching to a T-5 setup)
Out back I still have a 7.5 rearend but with the 3:27 ratio.

Motor-wise it's a 1971 250 motor with forged pistons & Isky cam.
Head is a 1977 250 head with exhaust porting & bowl work & .080" shaved.

I milled the 1 bbl. pad off to make room to mount a Holley 500 cfm directly to the intake.

For exhaust I run a Clifford 6 into 1 header with a Dynomax muffler.

You will need to mount a 5.0L style hood scoop on the car as the 250 is 2" taller on the deck height from the 200 so everything goes up by that amount including your air cleaner...........

Any other questions.......just ask

John
