Hello Everyone
I am jus t reading the Ford Falcon Six Performance Handbook and I am a little confused.I have a 64.5 Mustang with a 170>When I read the head ID behind the carb,It is a C3DE head but the handbook says that this was not available in the mustangs, only in 1963 or in the 200(Fairlane) 63 and 64.Is it possible that this is not the original engine or head or are there some exceptions?

Thanks
Ponyman

Thats probably the original. The casting number just states when part was made. They probably used some leftover heads in 1964.No big deal.I run into a lot of stuff like that.

Howdy back Ponyman and all:

With FoMoCo it is best to never say never or always. As has already been said, the casting # only indicated the year of the engineering change, and The empty bin policy means that the oldest parts get used up 1st. It that means that a C3 head goes on a 64 1/2, so be it.

It is also possible on a 40 plus year old engine that parts mixing in the past has taken place.

FYI, the C3 casting came stock with 1.52" intake valves and 1.26" exhaust. The C4 to the early 70s came with 1.649" intakes and 1.38" exhaust. Sometime between '72 and '75 intakes were inlarged to 1.75". exhasut stayed the same.

So, your 170 is likely down on power a little due to Henry's frugalness.

Adios, David
