my ad for pony carbs

Ok...I just installed my slightly used pony carb that I got from Barishiman, Aside from me not understanding how to full adjust it (it still chuggs a bit when cold - I need to figure out choke adjustment) it runs SOOOOO SMOOTH.

I can now see the benefit of a pony carb. They really have worked all the kinks out.

I never thought I would be saying this....but its worth the money to get a pony carb

trying to figure out if the only changes ponycarbs do to their carbs are the factory corrections that came out each year and printed in the shop manuals, I will have sleepless nights again, all thanks to you.





this is what I have found for the 170-200ci sixes:

64-66 SURGE AT LOW SPEED WITH STEADY THROTTLE (30 MPH)
(non-thermactor engines) enlarge idle channel restriciton using a No.55 drill in pin vise, use grease on drill to catch drill cuttings and clean upper body thoroughly.
(carb for 144ci application will need No.54 drill)

If surge still present after reinstall and road test, replace metering jet with one size larger. NOTE: may result in moderate decrease in fuel economy

64-66 SURGE AT HIGH SPEED WITH STEADY THROTTLE (70 MPH)

Change power valve timing to open sooner by adding additionla calibrating shims, part no. 375910-S, on power valve rod. If less than 4 shims are found on rod, add four, if four shims are found, add less than four so total number of shims will not exceed eight, or fuel economy will be affected adversely.


All other shortcomings are to be taken care of by a proper cleaning and rebuild, paying extra attention at free moving choke shafts, clean and unrestricted passages and correct adjustment. So I wonder, what else will Ponycarb do to their carbs... must be something to it when warranty is void on carb disassembly...

I'm with Chaz. My Pony 1100 ran great right out of the box and was real easy to adjust with the video.
I get the feeling that Pony bench checks all the carbs before shipping and doesn't want to get one back that runs bady after some owner 'improvements' that Pony has to fix. That and that they are 100% committed to STOCK applications. Anything else is for Speed Shops and that is not their market.

you have a tuning video? is it on VHS or dvd or what?

that would have/would help me greatly....

It's a VHS tape and it came with the carb. YOu can probably order one directly from Pony. I watched it a couple times and fooled with the carb a little before hooking it up. Plus you get to see THE MAN, John Ledyard or whatever his name is, doing the wooden, bug-eyed presentation.
