for the grand sum of $130 i picked this beauty up this morning.

im told it was originally a 170 head. it now has a flange to run tripple carburettors on it

some serious work has gone into it...

now, the plans for it.

I'm not keen on tripple carbs, as i already have a 350 holley ready to go. So im planning on making a box plenum with a carb flange on top out of mild steel 60x60 box section.

if anyone has any advice regarding fabricating plenums, please speak up! is there a formula for calculating the optimum volume of the plenum?

To me, the best part of rebuilding is getting that great deal. I love scavenging for those rare parts and finding a great deal. Congratulations, that is exciting. :D

barry_v,

That LYNX adapter looks like the one to suite a 250 2V head. As a matter of fact, where the flange meets the head, it looks like you may have picked up a 250 2V head. If true, what you probably want is the alloy 2 barrel intake manifold from one. What are the casting numbers on this head? You may have found the mother of all great deals!

No joke. 130 for a 250 2V? That guy must've not known what he had. I was hoping it was fabricated onto a regular US head, too...

I don't see any bolt holes to mount the lynx adapter to. My 2v head didn't have the ribbing in the 3/4 port. Look's sweet and you can't beat the price, nice find!!

Your right about the ribs not being present on the Aussie heads and LYNX does make a manifold for the log head conversion. I wonder what the part number is on the LYNX manifold ?

Do a search for Lynx manifolds they have 2 different intakes for the 170-250 U.S. heads.MO58 3x dhla carbs/MO60 3x HS6 SU carbs. I think you got a definete pot O' gold.

Yes, it's the "conversion" 170 head. Good price; the work may have been done in the Lynx Workshop. They started out like Clifford started out; innovative, competitively focused. Now they have a bad attitude and are dwindling in market presence. Sound familiar?

Yep, part numbers from my old post.

The LYNX website doesn't even include manifolds anymore, bummer dude

I know! It'd be a bit difficult to do, anyways, as you gotta remove the integral manifold... kinda hard to do that! Anyone else got any ideas on how to get/create a manifold?!?

Well, looking at some of your other posts, since you just spent a bunch of money on a head rebuilt and are considering a boost set-up, I would say either a 350 or 500 CFM 2 barrel carb either directly mounted on the log or with an adapter.

If you want to do a triple Webber or Delorto set-up without cutting off the log you need to start with either a Aussie, Argie, or FSPP Alloy head, intake manifold to suit, three carbs, $$$.

heres another pic..

I pulled a couple of valves out today. the tops of the valve guides have been machined to accept push on style seals rather than umbrellas. rekon i should use them or stick with the umbrellas?

I'm from South Australia btw.
