Need help getting a bearing out of the crank

On 250 there is a bearing pressed into the rear of the crank, where the flywheel bolts on. I think it may be a leftover from when this motor was hooked up to a man trans, I am connecting it to a C4 so I don't see any need for it. Do I have to remove it? The engine is assembled so I need to be real carefull with it. How would it come out?

If it has to be removed, take some grease and pack the bearing full right to the top then take a old man trans input shaft ( or any round stock that fits the hole with a tight fit and insert it into the grease. now take a hammer a hit the shaft. the grease will push the bearing out and up the shaft.

Depending on the I.D., finding a machined shaft that fits it perfectly (has to be very close) may be too difficult to do to try the grease trick.

I have a slide hamer with two jaws that slide inside, then expand to grab the bearing. A few hard pops with the slide and it is out.

Autozone will loan a pilot bearing puller. It has to come out so the nose of the C4 torque converter will seat in the end of the crank.
