I've got a 66 Mustang with the 200 CID and have found a header for sale that came off a 73 Ford Mustang with a 250 CID. Will they interchange? I'm a sucker for bargains and well..........you know!!!
IIRC, it will work fine, though it may hang about 1" lower than a true 200 header. OTOH, while a 250 header will work on a 200, the 200 header won't work on a 250 (because it goes "through" the starter).
Michael, I know the header you mentioned is a bargin. But what brand header is it? i guess its better than the stock exhaust manifold, but the choice of headers available is finally broadened. Mike at fspp has a very ecomomical header choice. What brand are you looking at?? Remember price is not everything, especiality in a header. : william
I don't know the brand. The header up for auction on Ebay. I've bought many parts with great success. It would have to be powder coated before installing. If you like Ebay you can do a search for Item number: 7911147063 and see a picture of it. Maybe you can tell who makes it.
It should fit the chassis with no problem. It looks like the Hooker. The only issue is probably going to be the height. It may hang a little low, but for that price, it's worth a shot. You could always sell it off, and probably at a profit.
Michael, it may be an old hooker. but hooker normally welds their collector flange to the collector. This header has the flange loose like the newer clifford headers. The primary pipes are in the 36"-38" length area which is typical hooker design. I wonder if hedman made a set for this engine years ago??
Take a look at my post HEADERS-HEADERS CHOICE OF L@@K L@@K.
I have a picture of the new hooker design. The cost from jet-hot was cheaper than summit. The cost of my header was $500.00
Mike at fspp has headers about $150.00 less cost but they are not full length primaries. good luck bidding. william :!:
I don't think they are Hookers, my guess is either Cyclone or Thorley. They will more then likely hang pretty low, judging by the length. But if you can get them cheap, then go for it, you can alway resell them.
If you do pick them up and things don't work out, let me know and I'll help you resell them. I get request for recon'd headers all the time and could probably find a buyer fairly easily.
I got a kick out of "RARE" and "'HARDLY USED", but did notice what looks like a can of spray paint sitting next to them.
If they do fit, have them ceramic coated and you'll have a set of like new tubes for a great price.
They're not Cyclone. They have 1-5-3 / 6-2-4 collector patterns. They're 250 headers - hence the extra "drop" height. Hookers have the slip joint - not visible here. My money is on Clifford or Thorley. Note also these headers may be made for the wider engine bays of factory 250-equipped cars. Could interfere with the shock tower.
If anybody is curious, the seller placed some real good close ups on the ebay site this evening.
I really appreciate all the comments. I think all of you are right about them hanging low. Does anyone have any comments about them being in the way of the shock towers????
On interference with the body? Only what I said before. Our headers tend to hit the steering box first, but you shouldn't have that problem unless you try to install the motor back to front...
