block numbers

these are the block numbers just in front of the starter. thanks steve.

It's a 1968 block, probably a 200. Can't tell you more than that from the numbers you've posted.

I'm with Addo.
Sounds like the block numbers on my old 200 (in the garage), but not 100%
The C8 definitely makes it a 1968 casting though.

Mike.

Thanks it is in my 62 comet. i was leaning toward the 200 because it is about 1/2 " away from the radiator.is there more i should look for that will help to prove it is a 200 six. also how are they for power. i am looking for a nice cruser with pep. i have found a 260 v8 is this where i should lean. Thanks agian.

A good 200 will give that 260 more than it wants.I'd keep the six. If you can, look at the casting # on top of the intake log of the cyl head. Also, feel around back just above where the bellhousing bolts to the top of the block. If there's another set of holes above the ones being used,it's likely a '66 and up 200.
The 200 I just finished building is quick and lots of fun to drive. The cars handle great with the six too....

Howdy Back C nut:

I can verify that the "C8DE 6015 B" is a 1968 casting with dual bolt hole patterns for both early and late trans bolt patterns.

"C" indicates the decade of the "60s. "8" tells the year, "D" says it was originally a Falcon part, and the "E" tells you it is an engine part. The "6015" identifies it as a bellhousing. The "B" at the end indicates an engineering change- in this case to the dual bolt pattern.

This code does appear on 170 engines also. You can verify the engine size by counting the freeze plugs under the exhaust manifold, on the passengers side. 3 = 170, 5 = 200.

Ironically, the 200 will be more than a match for a short stroke 200 in the cruising department. Also know that a 260 V8 may not be the best bent engine choice as many factory 289/302 parts do not interchange with it. If I were in your shoes, my first choice would be a 200 inline six for a cool cruz'n Comet.

Check out the number of freeze plugs and the casting code for the head and report back. Any more questions?

Adios, David

I am still looking to do a complete rebuild and upgrade. all advice fom you guys will be great as i am a electronics ( redneck ) geek. not too great around an engine.i want this ride to be easy to maintain so efi is a strong possability. along with new ignition.

the tranny doesnt seem to have 2 extra bolt holes along the top. i thought it was the 2 speed merc o matic. looking for id s now.

the bell housing looks to have a place for a clutch fork on both sides althoug it is a auotmatic. some one put a piece of wire mesh over it.bell and tranny are one piece. with a bolt on tailshaft. numbers around speedo gear are to small and akward to see.pasenger side has codp 7006-d does this sound right.the p may be a f or a b

That is an early slipomatic 2-speed auto (aircooled). The mesh is part of factory build.

The extra bellhousing bolt holes are visible on the block, not the transmission. They are up close to the head gasket surface, at the motor's rear. Likely that you can feel them if they can't actually be seen.

Your head is one of the "faves". A Maverick flat-topped log. It's considered one of the easier ones to modify for twin-barrel carbs. Certainly a much better head than made in 1962.

Cheers, Adam.

thanks addo and every one else. i still have a long road ahead of me.every one is great around here glad to have found ya.
