Need help with spark plug type

Need help to get a little more power. Like I said in another post I couldn’t get 55 mph on a hill on the interstate. After getting and looking at the performance handbook can someone out there give me some suggestions?
Here is what I have on my engine. An autolite 1100 carb(which is a new rebuild), Intake head number of C9DE-6090-M, Exhast manifold # C3DE-9430-A, Engine Block # C5DE-6015 H
I have installed the Pertronix ignition, new spark plug wires, new high voltage coil, new dist cap,
The book said something about colder spark plugs and adding more gap. Can anyone tell me what type and the number of spark plug I should be using with my engine setup? This car does not have much power on the hills.I did a compression check and evertything seems to be ok.
Big Thanks for any help.

8) the only reason you would need colder plugs is to eliminate detonation at high rpm. i use autolite double platinum plugs gapped at .045.

Autolite #46 Power Tip is the standard plug. Autolite #45 Power Tip is one heat range colder. With the hot coil, try 0.40 gap.

I have found that Wal Mart carries these plugs in two-packs at a good price.

The Power Tip plug puts more electrode into the combustion chamber, which in theory, should raise the compression ratio slightly.

Good Luck!

Howdy Terryst:

I'm glad to hear that someone reading the FPH. The spark plug question has already been well addressed, But I'm concerned about some other issues with your combination of head and block.

But 1st, know that spark plug gap and heat range are tuning issues and won't make a big performance difference. Small things do help, but did you compensate for the difference in compressed thickness of head gaskets when you swapped on the "M" head. If you didn't you will have lost about a half a point of compression. That would definetly hurt performance.

Please reread the sticky post at the top of this forum for the complete story on the head/gasket swap.

Adios, David

I can’t give you an answer on the thickness of the head gasket. I bought the car with this type of head on it. Head was already on the engine. I have not done much to the engine other than what I stated above.

Thanks for your interest and help guys.
