Need some help here.

There is a Ford 250 block off of a 77 Mav that someone is selling for $75. It will need to be rebuilt and I'm seriously considering buying it and swapping it out for the 200 in my 74 Mav.

I do admit though I don't know much about these engines yet and I don't really plan on having something like a 302 or anything bigger. My question is though, what more advantages does the 250 offer than the 200? Is it more economical or something? I'm sure I may see some increase in HP. Can someone fill me in on the positives if I end up going through with this possible idea?

The main thing you get with the 250 is, to me, more torque. It lugs less when going uphill.

As a rebuild candidate they need all the usual fancy tricks to make a decent fist of the job - torque plate honing, appreciable decking, head milling.

Cheers, Adam.

More cubic inches = more power & torque. That's a positive for sure.
If you are going to get that 250, then grab the bell housing, tourque converter and flywheel out of that 77 Mav as well.
The bell housing bolt pattern differs between a 200 & 250 motor.

I converted to 250 and the cubic inch advantage. Economy is not the advantage, as mentioned - Torque with a capital T is what the 250 offers.
( Maverick 170 swap could be easiest, most economical, that's what I used in the '63 Wagon)

Maverick should be easiest 250 swap BUT be aware the 250 is V8 parts from Flywheel back..., Engine mounts, linkages, FW/converter/clutch / tranny , driveshaft may need attention.

HAve Fun
